PHUKET: Mass vaccinations continued in Phuket yesterday as the total number of infections on the island since Apr 3 climbed to 530.

A total of 1,600 people received their first injection of the Sinovac vaccine at the Indoor Sports Stadium at Saphan Hin yesterday (May 9), while the campaign continues to call for people to register to be vaccinated through local channels for each major subdistrict in Phuket.

So far more than 104,000 people in Phuket have been vaccinated against COVID-19, including medical personnel and outpost personnel, general target groups working in tourism, ethnic groups, Buddhist monks, village headman, government officials and staff at local government organisations, reports the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket).

This will be another interesting test case of the efficacy of the Chinese vaccines...along with the Seychelles, another tourist dependent island that used it, and the AZ vaccine, to reach "herd immunity" so they could welcome back tourists. The result isn't very encouraging:

World’s Most-Vaccinated Nation Seychelles Sees Covid Surge

Seychelles, which has vaccinated more of its population against the coronavirus than any other country, said active cases of the disease more than doubled in the week to May 7.

It does say they used the Sinopharm vaccine, whereas Phuket is using Sinovac's so maybe the outcome will be different.

No new infections yesterday. Interesting to watch this sandbox with 14 day quarantine and attempt to vax everyone.

Still not game to book a flight 1st July yet

My flight home to Chiang Mai from Phuket was cancelled again yesterday (for the second time), that's a month longer than planned. oh well, at least we can dine-in here.

I can book on Thai Smile via BKK but Air Asia direct keeps cancelling, I don't understand that reasoning.

1600 vaccinations yesterday. That's not what I'd refer to as "mass-vaccination"!

Still lots of rumours around Karon about a cluster that's being covered up due to the police, mayor and kamnan concerned about the ramifications as it originates from a card school.

With 14 days quarantine it will be a very empty sandbox with no takers. And this was not the idea. Vaccinated visitors should have no quarantine, just 7 days on Phuket and than free to roam.

They don't want to lose money flying a near empty plane?

My regular massage girl in Chalong said she was vaccinated twice already.

A lot of people in Phuket have had two vaccines, including my partner and her son. But at the moment there's just one centre open, as far as I know, and 1600 jabs per day is a drop in the ocean.

It's not a lot...but again there aren't a lot of people in Phuket right now. Is there any estimate of the number they need to jab before July 1?

I needed to take my time looking at the picture before commenting, sorry but that looks like a disaster waiting to happen, why the hell can they not allow Dr's surgeries, Chemists & other places to offer the vaccine so that people are not herded into large venues where spreading is gonna be rife ? The people in charge are fools.
