A month on and the usual doomsayer's predictions have been busted. Wonder what doom porn they can come up with next?

Hello, are you having problems reading? Maybe time to go to Spec Savers.

So in your opinion 3019 people with the virus and many dead is acceptable, pathetic.

Even 1 person dead is 1 too many.

Hmm, yeah right. Nothing has happened, hospitals are not full, many not on ventilators, people are not dying, large clusters of cases not being found, oh and everyone is vaccinated. What planet do you live on.  You don't like to say sorry the folks were right that the Songkran travel caused a major mess and its continuing on every day.  Look at the Stats posted daily and tell me again nothing occurred.

The Songkran doomsayers predicted large numbers of infections in the provinces from visits from Bangkok. They were wrong.

The 2,000 new infections a day are mostly concentrated in Bangkok.

You seem confused.

The Doomsayers were predicting exponential growth in new infections. Instead, we have a flat line, outside of the prisons.

Great. Can you give some examples of provinces with low case numbers and then provide the number of tests conducted in that province.

I can point you to the official daily numbers, which are posted here every day.

if you assert those numbers are inaccurate, up to you to disprove them.

But, there are hundreds of members of this forum living in the provinces, and there have been few, if any, reports from a province that contradict the official numbers.

Look at the Stats again, and then tell me the percentage in Bangkok.  Mostly would indicate most cases are in Bangkok which once again is not entirely true.

The Doomsayers here predicted big numbers of cases in the provinces from Songkran travel. Any explosion in cases would be reflected by overwhelmed hospitals in the provinces.

But, that isn’t happening.

What planet are you living on? They are materialising right before our eyes...are you blind? Can you not add 1 and 1 together for yourself or do you need someone to hold your hand and tell you what to believe?

I'm living in Bangkok, and no I cannot see what you're describing. Do enlighten me.

For Sunday the public health department have announced 2,302 new infections and 24 Covid-related deaths over the past 24 hours.

How anyone can downplay these numbers is beyond me. The situation is unfortunately far from over.

Well I am sure they will try and downplay it by throwing in that most of them are only in Bangkok, and then many are from the prisons, but lets wait and see as there are still those who believe this is nothing more than a minor inconvenience as well and is soon to fade away.  Continuing the trend of cases daily and double digit deaths just shows this current wave is still rolling along.  Stay safe folks.

Yes they seem to forget that Bangkok is the epicenter of Thailand and while the outbreak remains there then nowhere is safe.

Of course it's not over - it's a global pandemic!  But for a country Thailand's size, the numbers are manageable and surely not worth wrecking the economy over?

They've successfully ruined the economy already by not taking the necessary actions over Songkran, now we're seeing the prolonged effects of that stupidity.

Yes, that's true.  Something has to give.  I just wish they were as concerned about children's education as they are about money, and would open up the schools!  Online learning is no subsitute.

Hopefully they will get those teachers and students vaccinated who want to be, and if not then I don't know what the answer would be.  Teachers are a vital need in the schools and if they go down then who will fill the void.  If no one, well then classes will double in size and create other issues because they will not be able to ensure social distancing is taken seriously.  Regardless they need to do the right thing with getting students back to school.  If they would get moving with vaccinating this would be a no brainer. They also need an adequate supply of all vaccines is available, so folks have a choice, and then maybe they can get ahead of the issues.  We will continue to see cases for a very long time I am afraid, but we need to get vaccinating to reduce the issues.

Yes, not "cancelling" the Songkran holiday (as they did last year) would have helped.  I still doubt that the current "wave" would have been avoided though, and half-hearted, ill-considered lockdowns have not helped.

Agree the current wave would not have been avoided but would have kept the numbers and deaths far lower, ill considered light lockdowns do nothing but prolong the situation in high numbers, to bring them down you need strict lockdowns and vaccinations, only then can you ease measures.

I'm in the same situation as you with my daughter off school and learning online yet still paying very expensive fee's. I want this over but cannot see that happening until those strict measures have happened.

We've got plenty of experience in Europe, the UK, and US, when measures are eased to early its not long before the outbreak gets larger and lockdowns come back again.

The mass of clusters you are others predicted around the country due to songkran have not happened, you should be the one looking at the stats and apologising. The clusters have remained in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces that were there before songkran, how can that be down to travel?

What we do have is a more virulent strain causing all the current problems. I thought man so fixated with the current situation may have noticed that?

Were these experts also doomsayers?

Dr Yong

"Thailand’s top virologist, Dr. Yong Poovorawan, says the current rate of COVID-19 infection is more serious than a year ago and suggests that the tradition of visiting the elderly, to receive their blessings, be replaced with virtual visits, to reduce the risk of infection."

“Assuming that the infections this year are ten times higher than they were last year, and the preventive measures are ten times less effective than they were last year, that means that the severity of the pandemic this year will be 100 times greater than it was last year,” said Dr. Yong.

Thailand Health Ministry

The Public Health Ministry is warning the public that partying and letting ones guard down could see daily Covid-19 infections rise to nearly 3,000. Opas Karnkawinpong from the Disease Control Department says

Dr. Prasit Watanapha,

Thailand’s new COVID-19 infections are expected to increase rapidly during the two weeks following the Songkran holidays, especially now that the UK strain of the virus is spreading, according to Dr. Prasit Watanapha, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, speaking during a recent live interview with Thai PBS World.

Department of Disease Control (DDC) deputy director-general Dr Sophon Iamsirithaworn

More than 28,000 people could be infected by COVID-19 per day over the next month if no disease control measures are put in place during the current spike.

Try making your arguments without need for derogatory terms which amount to nothing more than cheap flaming

Yep, have to agree the numbers are higher than last year, you can blame the UK strain for that.

Yes correct you can, its a pity CCSA didn't take into account the evidence and let the outbreak run rampant here instead.

Seems most of the world are having problems with all these new more virulent strains, not just Thailand. Hopefully once the vaccination program eventually kicks in things will start to open up, but this will be around for a long time and things wont return to pre covid levels for some considerable time.
