I'm really sorry for opening a topic I'm sure gets covered often, but I'm really needing advice.  I lived and worked in Thailand for seven years and plan to retire there as soon as things open back up.

I have the necessary 800,000 THB to open a Thai bank account but I've never figured out how to maintain a Thai account for two months before applying for the retirement visa.  Can I open an account while on a tourist visa and do some kind of visa run to renew it until I meet that requirement?

Sorry again if this gets asked a lot, but I've been puzzling over this for ages. Thanks for your help!

If you plan on enter Thailand on tourist visa or visa exempt entry and will be applying for 90 day non-o visa entry at immigration the 800k baht only has to be in the bank on the day you apply for the visa.

Then when you apply for a one year extension of stay (it is not a visa) the 800k baht will need to be in the bank for 2 months.

At this time you could apply for a single entry non-o visa at most Thai embassies and official consulates. To apply you would need the 40k baht outpatient and 400k baht inpatient medical insurance valid for 90 days.

Not sure I understand you.

You say you have the necessary 800,000 baht to open  a Thai bank account but then say you don't know "how to maintain a Thai account for two months"(?).

What do you mean by this, you just leave the money in the account?!

Thank you.  I didn't realize it only had to be in an account the day I applied.  This is very helpful.
