Your argument is strictly... as lame.

If one death is a problem... then we need to stop everything and everyone for this one death, isn't it ?

So let's breath in, and breath out... We can't escape using comparisons and scales.

Because that's the way human brain is working... ! to allow us to understand the world we live in.

If Covid commands that we lockdown countries for 3 or even 6 millions deaths in the world (let's double the official count)... then what shall we do for :

Disease burden and mortality estimates (WHO, for the year 2016, 5 years ago)

https://www.who.int/healthinfo/global_burden_disease/estimates/en/

Data : https://www.who.int/healthinfo/global_burden_disease/GHE2016_Deaths_Global_2000_2016.xls?ua=1

-heart diseases + strokes = 17,8 millions deaths

-cancers  = 8,9 millions

-infectious diseases + parasites = 5,49 millions

-respiratory diseases (not infectious) = 3,8 millions

-alzheimer dementia = 2,53 millions

etc.

Countries factor these deaths into their expected death rates. Covid is not factored in and becomes excess deaths. Quite simple really. I think you will find that countries which have had long lockdowns the number of road fatalities will be less than the predicted death rate. Being that covid-19 is new there are no historical data and therefore predictions cannot be made in relation to a death toll hence Covid-19 deaths are viewed as excess. Anything else that goes above the expected death rate e.g. a particularly bad flu season is also counted as excess deaths.

All safely distancing I see, no wonder they can't vaccinate everyone if you need  8  people to be present, you  might feel a slight rpick PM. And I'm sure he did.

Opinion: Take the first vaccine available, for me, that was Sinovac

Thailand has ordered millions of doses of Sinovac, which enjoys the dubious honor of being perhaps the most doubted vaccine brand in the world.

Its reputation has been butchered in the international press. It has yet to be approved by the World Health Organization. Many Thais make no secret of their fear and derision. Some loudly declare they refuse to take it. One Twitter user told me that it is equivalent to death: hyperbole, to be sure, but reflective of the general mood.

And this mood is now fueling a more generalized vaccine hesitancy — a desire to delay getting a vaccination even as Thailand’s mass vaccination campaign steps into high gear next month, in favor of waiting for an alternative choice later in the year.

If they cause more infections they will cause more serious cases and more deaths won't they?Surely if more people are seriously ill or more people die as a result of it being more infectious then it causes "more" serious illness and death! How does one know how each individual will react if infected with the different strains? One could also say there is no evidence that it doesn't cause more serious illness for the majority of people who become infected.

I think the intent of the original post was to say that the variants don’t have a higher mortality rate per person infected. Of course, you are right, more infectious, means more cases, means more serious illness and death in totality, even though the mortality rate stays the same.

What a surprise and yet so predictable. If mass testing took place i wonder what numbers we would be fed.

Just spoke to my mother in law........all of the health workers in the villages surrounding their provincial town have refused the vaccine..........if they won't take it I can't see any of the locals having a jab.

After a slow start, I’m now meeting more and more people who have had at least their first jab. My house cleaner and my gardener had theirs yesterday.

no such option available to me however.

Opinion: Why is Thailand trying to squeeze extra doses out of vaccine bottles

The head of immunization at Public Health England, Dr Mary Ramsay, was very happy in January when they found out that it is possible to get an extra dose out of AstraZeneca’s vails.

No where else, except in Thailand and in South Korea, are they trying to squeeze two extra doses out of the same bottle.

Four provinces in Thailand, down one from yesterday, report more than 100 new COVID cases in today's update:

Bangkok -- 951

Phetchaburi -- 669

Samut Prakan -- 180

Chonburi -- 106

Twenty eight provinces reported 10 or fewer new cases, and 27 provinces reported no new cases for the most recent day.

Graphic below shows the daily new case tallies from the past week May 18-24 for (in order on the chart) total Thailand domestic cases excluding those from international quarantine, and subtotals for Bangkok province cases and prison cases. All three numbers declined on Monday compared to the prior day.

This from the article I find truthful and at the same time disheartening.

"Yet Thailand’s Ministry of Public Heath is so confident it can extract two".  The truth of the matter is, we are trying to get extra doses out of these bottles because our vaccine program has been a complete failure. And people are dying because of it.  Not only has our vaccine program been a complete failure but our vaccination policy is quickly shaping up to be a failure as well with competing messages from various organs of the government.

Sad commentary when they are trying to squeeze out more vaccine instead of obtaining more vaccines.  Is it truly just because they are short or is it also to save some extra funds by getting 2 more jabs from each bottle.

UK did this ages ago........

not correct the UK waits 12 weeks between 1st and 2nd shot. and it is done exactly that way, it truly is so well organised .

credit to the fantastic NHS

That was the case, I think that has now been reduced to speed up the fully vaccinated numbers. I had Pfizer and my time frame was reduced from 11 weeks to 7 weeks.
