Hi guys

I need to renew my passport for my child. We are here in Hua hin at the moment and his British passport needs renewal. The snag I have is the counter signature section, where it asks for a signature from a "professional" who is a UK passport holder etc.

My issue is I no longer know any British guys here in Thailand. Has anyone got any ideas or know of a way I can tackle this?

Cheers

Doesn't have to be UK, can also hold Irish or other EU, US or Commonwealth passport.  The list of recognised professions is very extensive, unless you don't know any non-Thai's it's hard to imagine it's not possible.

Don’t get too caught on it.
I’ve signed for others and I’m not a professional by any means.

I had a British friend sign for my son.

Its something that doesn’t really get questioned. Any Brit should do.

Hi guys

Got my countersignature sorted for the form. My kid has both Thai and British passport. Do I need to send his Thai passport as well or just his old British one? The form for supporting documents on the UK Gov site says any uncancelled passports.

Cheers

I'd send a copy of both (you won't be sending the original of either).  The guidance is pretty clear whether applying in the UK or overseas.

Supporting documents

To renew your child’s passport you’ll need:

  • your child’s old passport
  • any valid passports from a different country your child might have
