Does anyone know where I can find indoor gardening supplies and equipment in Bangkok or mail-order delivery to Bangkok? A friend of mine is looking for everything from seeds, to humidity guages, to grow lamps. Chatuchak is OK for plants but not much good for the other stuff.

You don't need special grow lamps.....regular fluorescent tubes work fine. Some people say how can a fluorescent tube work as good as a grow light?...the grow light is so much brighter. The reason is that the grow light is 500 watts or 1000 watts and a single 4 foot fluorescent tube is only 36 watts...if you used 14 fluorescent tubes (four footers) you would be using about 500 watts and you would see that you are getting at least as much light...and since you have many small sources you can control light intensities much better than with one 500 watt grow light which will have really intense light really close to it and diffuse light farther away but you cannot vary that distribution.

Special tubes are not required. You can alternate cool color tubes with warm color tubes if you think it works better but my experience is that it really doesn't matter...at least for some things.

I as well trying to find a good shop in BKK that carries EC Meters, Organic Fertilizers, Worms, Temp and Humidity Guages etc. but my purpose is for outdoor which will be much cheaper. Before I moved to Thailand 3 years ago I was an avid indoor gardner, with a monster set-up I put togeter over time. Mylar the walls First room had 3 450w. MH Second room was running 5 1000w. HPS and the germination station was a block of 14 flourescent bulbs. Electrical controlled Temp and Humidity guages, A Power Air filter and of course a massive fan system, among others. (my friend owned a shop, so I got some rediculous deals) Anyways, I hate to argue with you Chownah but your understanding of lighting systems is completly wrong. If you are strictly talking lumens then your technically correct, but you need to consider the different spectrums of light that each put out. Look up the spectrums of light given off by a Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium and Flourescents. If you really think about it the most important aspect of setting up lighting indoors is to immitate the natural sun and I don't care how many flourescents you set up you will never get an end result anywhere close to a proper lighting set-up and that includes a timers of course. Camerata if you come across some good shops please send me a message and I will do the same for you. What are you planning on growing anyways, Tomatoes? Good Luck
