No deaths would be ideal, but 43 isn't too bad compared to the worst day in the UK which was 1,800 plus which is worse than the total for the entire time in Thailand. The vast majority of Thais who have succumb were old or overweight.

 

Let's hope they keep the numbers low and have success with the vaccine roll out and things can start getting back to relatively normal again.

I don't have the exact numbers but almost all 60+ year olds I know in Phuket have had at least one, and many are going for their second next week. All health workers have already been done.

 

They are on track to have 70% done by August.

 

Sino for over 60s and AZ for under.

 

Australia has only vaccinated 2.5% so far.

Hmm, I appreciate your anecdotal evidence, but I must be honest and say that it is less than convincing.
 

For instance, I am in Phuket, over 60 but despite making enquiries at various hospitals, government offices, I can find no process for me to register for a jab, let alone get one. I assume I am not the only farang over 60 here, and further assume that they also haven’t found a process for obtaining a jab either. So there’s that.

 

and then there is the government numbers released just a week ago (sorry, I don’t have a link, so be skeptical if you wish) which stated that just 21% of the island population had had two jabs. I haven’t seen updated figures since then, so I read into that that the numbers haven’t risen much, and thats for the simple reason that they have focused on giving first jabs for everybody, so that they can claim those people as “vaccinated”.

 

don’t get me wrong, a lot of Thai people have had their first jab in Phuket and a lot of working foreigners also. When the government says they have given first jabs to 50% of the population, I think there is more than a grain of truth to that, although the definition of “population” is unclear given Phuket’s block of non phuket registered Thai workers.

 

however, the suggestion that nearly 70% of the Phuket population has been fully vaccinated with two jabs, just does not stand up to scrutiny. Hence the reason why even the government does not claim it to be so.

Australia’s problem is that they are stuck in the “find a few cases, lockdown” mode. It’s effective and has got them very good results to date and is to be applauded. But it’s not a long term solution and eventually you have to break out of that syndrome.

People getting their first jab is starting to lose momentum it seems. Not sure if that’s because of lack of vaccine or lack of people willing to have the jab.

I really don't care what you call it, I'm amused by your post count that contains reference to it that's all....lol.

 

My head's not in the sand however, I use it too but surprisingly have no need to do so more than is relevant to the actual post. How normal people use it really.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some vaccine disappear from official channels.

Australia has vaccinated over 16% of its population with at least one dose so far.

 

How you can compare Australia to Phuket anyway? In what way is that of any relevance. Thailand and Australia stats in the chart below just for you.

 

In Phuket they have only just started vaccinating the over 60's this week and thats only for the Thai population. Before that it was a complete free for all, any Thai could make an appointment and most did not even bother, just turn up at one of the centers and get a jab.

In the UK the Kent (uk) strain has been overwhelmed by the Indian strain and is now 80% of cases and causing concern. It is bound to do the same in Thailand. Cases up from average 2000 daily to 7000 yesterday. Daily tests around 800.000 but 1.2000.000 one day recently. Normally single figure deaths.

Yes, mate well done Thailand - now they just have to worry about the 1000% more road deaths than the UK each year. 100,000 die in the UK in a once in a lifetime pandemic , whilst the same number die in thailand every 4 years through stupidity !

Currently they say that the Indian strain is responsible for 6% of all cases in Thailand with the remaining being the UK strain, however that was with a sample size of just over 3,000 tests. If they did some surge/mass testing here then I'm pretty sure that figure would be much higher now.

I've seen it disappear from the old and vulnerable list and go straight to the air hostess and hospitality workers and the vaccinate Phuket lists.

What about the Thai strain, the Thai authorities objected to it been called that, saying it came from Egypt. It's where it was discovered by sequencing, in Thailand. The Kent strain was discovered in Kent, could have originated anywhere, possibly Europe.

Interesting. Higher numbers than I expected, so a well done on that. Helped by the focus on the big vaccination sites in Bangkok I suspect.

 

But it leads to the next problem,. What happens when the vaccine runs out in three days time?

I think the cluster thing is done and dusted. They don’t want to find any more, so won’t.

Sadly it is going to get worse - in terms of the number of reported deaths - before it gets better, despite the vaccine rollout. It will be mid September/early October before the numbers start coming down.

One month from now the numbers of daily dead will be in the region of 125 -150 and this will continue - maybe with a slight rise - through August and into early September.
