My family

wife & 3 children all over 18 have dual nationality Thai / UK citizenship, they

currently need to renew their UK passports in Bangkok. I have a couple of questions relating to the OS British Passport form.

1. In (section 3) do they write their current expired UK passport number & their Thai passport number ?

2. In (section 4) do they all have to put their Thai parents details in the boxes ?

3. In ( section 10) does this need to be filled out with the details of the person who is confirming the identity on the back of the applicants passport photo even though they will NOT hold either a UK, EU, US or common wealth passport ?

Many Thanks

I think ALL other passports need to be quoted.

I don't think section 4 is required for renewals (they are first adult passport applicants?).

Yes to section 10 if the photos require certification.

Can you please explain the process now to renew a passport.

Is it visit embassy fill out the forms-do you need an appointment?

This summarises the process in detail, and has links to the relevant uk.gov websites.

You print off the completed application and take it to VFS in Sukhumvit soi 13, where everything is checked.  When the new passport has been issued you have to collect it in person, or use an agent.  T

Why do you no longer post new passports but make us do another trip to BKK that would be at least a 6hr drive + a night if not 2 in a hotel, and I'm guessing you don't have a drive through for collection so a rip off taxi fare on top. About 6,000+ baht for me to collect a new passport.

Yeah it's very inconvenient for people who can't easily get to Bangkok (or Chiang Mai).  As Steve says above, you can use an agent but it will cost you.

Good news for you, there's parking at the Trendy building.  That'll save that twice in 10 year taxi fare, although doubtless the parking fee might also give you cause for complaint.

However, the passports are for my Wife’s 2 Children aged 19 & 21 it is for there first “UK adult passport” renewal from UK Child passport and we do not have a counter signatory we know in Thailand who can confirm their passport photos who has a British or EU passport ? Can a Non UK or EU say a (Thai) passport holder sign the photos and fill in section 10 ?

If you’re applying outside the UK

Your countersignatory must have a current British, Irish or other EU, US or Commonwealth passport.

If they have a US, Commonwealth, or non-British or non-Irish EU passport, you must include with your application a colour photocopy of the page with their photograph on it.

Your application will be processed faster if they have a British or Irish passport.

Instead of making snide remarks, why not concentrate on my original question which was directed to the British Embassy. WHY ARE THEY NOT POSTED ANY MORE !

Even if you asked in the British Consular Information forum, the only answer you would get is that they have nothing to do with the regular issue of passports, which is the responsibility of the Passport Office.

If you asked the Passport Office, don't hold your breath waiting for a reply. Although we only have to do it every 9*years, they couldn't have invented a more inconvenient process if they tried. It stems from anally retentive officialdom that believes that neither overseas applicants nor the Thai Postal Service can be trusted. In the UK, you can apply online and submit your expiring passport with the application, the latter being defaced and returned with the new passport. For obvious reasons we can't do that, but I don't see why we can't have a facility to apply online and upload a copy of the expiring passport - what on earth do they do with all those paper copies that we take to VFS? When the new passport is ready it can be sent to VFS, to whom the expiring passport could be submitted and returned with the new one by EMS, in less than a week. I messaged the Passport Office suggesting this but never had the courtesy of a reply.

Unfortunately the passport application system is just one of the ways in which the UK treats expats as second-class citizens.

* As the expired portion of a passport is no longer credited to the new one, when you come to the final year you are faced with the choice of applying to Immigration for an extension of less than a year, or accepting only 9 years' use before you renew it.
