BANGKOK (Reuters) - The U.S. embassy in Thailand on Wednesday turned down a direct appeal to fly in coronavirus vaccines for its citizens but said the U.S. government was taking actions to boost vaccine access worldwide.

720 more “fancy” lamp posts worth 68 million Baht approved for Samut Prakan

 

 

Despite widespread public criticism of inappropriate spending and alleged over-pricing, the Racha Thewa Tambon Administration Organization (TAO) Council, in Bang Phli district of Thailand’s Samut Prakan province, has decided to spend another 68 million baht on installing an additional 720 decorative lamp posts in the sub-district.

2 million more Sinovac vaccine doses arrive in Thailand Wednesday

 

 

Two million more doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine arrived in Thailand today (Wednesday), bringing the total of vaccine delivered from China to the country to 10.5 million doses, according to the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok.

Hospitals in Bangkok suspend COVID-19 test as they run out of beds for the infected

 

 

Several hospitals in Bangkok have suspended PCR swab tests because they are concerned that, if some test positive for COVID-19, they will have no beds to accommodate them. Others have scaled down the service, because their staff are overloaded, according to Dr. Suppachok Kirdlarp of Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine of Ramathibodi hospital.

The Thai government has not yet decided to go forward with a proposal, made by a prominent doctor, for a one-week lockdown of Bangkok amid rising COVID-19 cases, citing concerns over economic impacts of the measure, said Gen. Nattaphon Narkphanit, who heads a Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) sub-committee.

Two doses of Sinovac can stop spread of COVID-19 – National Vaccine Institute

About 95% of those who have received two doses of the Sinovac vaccine have developed an immune response which prevents the spread of SARS-CoV-2, or COVID-19, according to research jointly conducted by the Thai Red Cross Emerging Infectious Diseases Health Science Centre of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and the US Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Science (USAMD-AFRIMS).
