BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai Public Health Ministry’s Pre-Admission Center has announced that it is temporarily closed to migrant workers, as many infected with COVID-19 were being abandoned at the center.

Department of Medical Services (DMS) Director-General Dr. Somsak Akkasilp said some employers have abandoned infected workers at the center, without advance notice, leading to problems with bed management and possible unexpected virus transmission.

He said the center has had to temporarily stop the admission of infected migrants at hospitals and field hospitals in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces. The center was designed to screen infected people, prior to sending them for treatment.

Dr. Somsak insists, however, that the department is not biased against migrant workers, saying hospitalization is available to every nationality but, currently, there are too many COVID-19 patients waiting in the queues.

he forgot to give intructions as to what they should do

Thailand accepts these people to come and work on the cheap - they have a duty of care to take care of them

Have they stopped accepting Thai's? I think it would be in their best interest to get the migrant workers vaccinated like rapid they are life blood of the Thai economy lots of business would grind to a halt without them

Such compassionate employers... treat slave labour like throw-way commodities.

Thailands health service starting to show the cracks are widening.

" The center was designed to screen infected people, prior to sending them for treatment." It seems that is exactly what the people going there are doing..

So to be straight the government closes all Building sites in Bangkok and 6 provinces because there are clusters of covid19 then they also close the only option left for may of these workers to get possible treatment or in fact a roof over their heads!!!

Bear in mind that almost all of these clusters were in build projects that had walls and security and therefor would and could have been fairly easily managed, with said workers who were able to work continuing to work and earn money.

The governments decision has hit one of the most vunerable working groups in Thailand who generally live on the building sites that they work on and get paid daily..Well done out of touch government..100,000+ people not working and possibly with no accomadation for the next 30 days..not counting the ancillery workers at concrete plants etc..

What next?

Lead them into a big building and gas them?  oops! I shouldn't give the authorities ideas.

It's disgusting the way Thailand treats foreigners. They say again and again that all foreigners can register for vaccination, but they can't.

All will be treated on an equal basis, but they are not.

About 3 years on Quora I said one of the downside features of Bangkok was "disposable everything-including people". How right I was.

I posted yesterday about this very same subject being reported in BP .

This practice of " Migrant Dumping " brings nothing but shame to Thailand and its people.

OK ! Its just a few people that are doing this despicable thing to people who are already being persecuted by having to work for very Low wages, in often hostile and Dangerous conditions, and then having to endure living in conditions the Animal Welfare people in the  UK would condemn.

But shame on Thailand,s Government for allowing , neah even condoning such a barbaric practice.

If it were Thai people in a Foreign Land, they would be spitting out their Dummy, and demanding justice for the poor, put upon, down trodden Thais.

Shame on you Thailand, - shame on you

Lots of empty buildings in Bangkok where they could house the migrant workers

The workers in the camps, are they feeding them?  Water?

These people work day to day, if they don't work, they don't earn and they don't eat.

They will probably be treated the same as the Workers lock within the Factories of Samut Sakhon.

To start, they will have everything the Gov,t promised.

Food to Eat, Water Etc.

After a week or so they will be treated differently with sporadic food deliveries of poor quality food,  little or no Electric Etc

Another out of sight and out of mind strategic move.

So what's the plan Nutty ? let them roam around ? What about opening up army barracks, the army have got naff all to do, give 75% of them home leave problem solved.
