To make sure that people do not flee Bangkok for other provinces,

I am certain if maps are studied, there will be plenty of "rat runs" that can be used to bypass checkpoints to gain access to the countryside and other Provinces beyond!

So, if they are monitoring people leaving Bangkok during non-curfew hours, this will surely include Brits returning to the provinces from their trips to With-It Tower to submit their renewal applications or collect their new passports, will it not?

Yes, as I said.  But presumably such a journey would be deemed as necessary and therefore would be permitted.

Listen up folks this covid is giving me and my ministers a little stress so we have come up with a plan.

In 3 days we are going to implement a lockdown so stay where you are no going back to your provinces until we say so!

We are going to keep the markets open covid can't spread in markets everything else is going to close so those of you who can afford too please don't hoard.

Oh and don't worry about being vaccinated we have that in hand.

Is the official's title really, "The Supreme Commander" or is that a loose translation?

WiKi says:

Quote

Chief of Defence Forces, previously known as the Supreme Commander

And the Thai wording can very well be translated like "supreme commander of the military".

https://www.thai2english.com/dictionary/1374632.html

And he is indeed the chief of all military forces (land, sea, air) not just the army.

That's him just in case you come his way.

I think you'll find that most people who wanted to leave have left already !

Giving prior notice 3 or4 days before this "lockdown" was implemented, really wasn't a great idea !

I am sure they do this on purpose to get people out of Bangkok to relieve the burden on Bangkok hospitals, if this is the case their 'great idea' works.

I am in the process of trying to replace a lost UK passport.

I emailed VFS (HMPO) about the need to visit their Trendy office twice in Bangkok,  to deliver the application and then subsequently collect the new passport,

In my case this would have involved 2 x 14 days self isolation on returning to my home in Phetchabun. This is their response :- "For applying renewal passport you may come to apply application by yourselves, by your family/relative/friend or use representative to submit application on your behalf."

It's as if they've never heard of Covid19/quarantine etc or maybe it's the case that all their staff have been vaccinated, so why should they worry about lesser mortals from the outlying provinces?

I have decided to use an agent, to cut out the hassle. Hopefully it'll be 5,000bht well spent.

It will, as long as the agent is the real deal. Ask around first.

And to ensure the virus is yet further distributed up country by the escaping Bangkokians. Again, just like SongKran.

Will the embassies and passport place even be open? As a Brit there are lots of things we can complain about and many such as this that are beyond our control.

the military and the police have already set up more than 80 road checkpoints in the capital to monitor departing vehicles, especially pickup trucks and passenger vans.

Bunk.  Tell me they are stopping normal and Hi-So and VIP Thais from leaving?  They're looking for "dirty" migrants.
The rest have a free pass to go forth and infect the country just like during Songkran.

During the past 3 weeks the number of Covid daily cases, in Issan has gone from some 50 to over 1000, that's a twentyfold increase. Congratulations.

And still going up, looks out of control, our district has 5 to 10 cases a day now.

Are restaurants allowing dining-in in Hua Hin, and serving alcohol?  Or are people just coming for the beach?

No alcohol allowed, not sure of dining in as some are, and some are not. Just hearing today of a possible 9 pm curfew coming.
