What happened about the new-style investment visa?

Featured Replies

Not so long ago I read on here that they were going to introduce a new investment-based visa that allows you to buy land. I tried a search just now but couldn't find the thread. It was only a proposal and may have been dropped or just died a death, but does anyone know what happened with it or how I can keep an eye on it?

I believe it was a proposal by TaT.  Not anything remotely concrete.  As for keeping up with it, presumably it will be plastered all over Thailand related news sites like this if it rears it's head again.  Wouldn't get your hopes up!

Just all talk, a bit like Thailand's space ambitions

The one visa you mention was a proposal, but there is an investment visa that allows you to buy up to 1 rai of land, just you invest 40 million baht in specific areas, including appartement(s) and state bonds.

Out of my league unfortunately. The proposed one was along the lines of "you can come and live here with virtually no restrictions as long as you spend USD 500k on a house". You did need to show total assets of at least USD 1m, but they could stay invested in the West. Quite a few EU countries have similar schemes with lower requirements, e.g. Portugal (EUR 350k), Greece (EUR 250k). They seem to have worked quite well so I'm not giving up hope just yet. They're bound to do something to try and reboot the system when the pandemic eases.

According to today's B****** P*** newspaper, Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow is planning to propose this to the cabinet, so it appears possibly to be moving forward.

Well that's good news, thanks for the heads up.
