Phuket Sandbox: Nearly 10,000 tourists so far - US/Brits top list spending 70,000 baht each

Such BS, Ex-pats & Thais who live and work here are being exploited, counted as tourist!

We all have had to be part of the Scam-Box, and pay for a hotel room for 14 days.

EVERY SINGLE day after scanning in, most of us return home, spending the same amount!

That's what must be padding the bill....the Covid swabs three times a day....

We are flying to Phuket this week. The transfer and testing will cost more than the hotel.

You can try Kish Island off the coast of Iran Persian Gulf. Its quite nice looking. BTW males and females cannot sit together on the beach..along with many other rules to enhance your visit. No alcohol but I managed to get a bottle of scotch from a driver. He was extremely nervous about the whole idea ...   wonder why?

Because it would be like your local Pattaya cab driver handing you a kilo of cannabis bud and 15 grams of coke.

I wonder how many of them 'brought infections into the country' ...

FYI.  Kish Island is sort of the model the New Normal Thai elites are shooting for as the New Normal model for Thailand tourism spots.  No booze. No hookers. Conservative dress even on the beaches. No nightclubs.  No night-life (well at least for the women)  But shopping shopping shopping.
The PM, Parliament, and his Cabinet should convert to Shia Islam.  Then they could implement draconian restrictions like those on Kish Island and still maintain the dynamic social/religious tensions on the Malay border and the three southern-most provinces.

5,500 baht a day all in ,in  English that would be 120 GBP ,I would say it would be difficult to finding  any cheaper, that is for one person , for a couple it  would not be a lot more .

Unless it is a flea pit, and you eat one bowl of rice a day .

Normaly  when you go on holiday you go to enjoy your self ,not the above.

£120 a day for hotel and food is cheap? You must have stupidly expensive tastes, if a couple can't easily live on over £200 a day. Our hotel is about £550 for 15 days including breakfasts for the 3 of us. Another 25000 Baht for tests still leaves plenty for something with the rice.

So you now like Americans Brits  and Israeli  you’re spending money would make a lot more money if you rolled out the vaccine and gave everybody a vaccine so the numbers will go down not that I believe your numbers anyways  TIT

They can buy food and drink (Thai or otherwise) at home. As far as the rest of this goes it doesn't sound like a fun holiday that I personally would want to take, but to each their own...

I've never cared a lot about 'accommodations' as for me it's pretty much a place to sleep for 6 or 8 hours before heading out and enjoying vacation.  Food?  I can buy a $200 farang meal in my home country.  While in Thailand I prefer the 50 to 100 THB plate of Thai food that would cost me $25 per plate back in my home country and not taste as good.  PCR test - boy howdy are local manufacturers making a ton of money.  So not being a Hi-So prig, I've really no reason to spend 5000 THB per day which I view as complete overkill.  Poor value for the money spent.  If the entertainment venues where open, then you could get closer to the 5000 THB mark, but instead they're closed and that 5000 THB goes to overpriced hotels and overprices everything else.  Who needs that nonsense?

If I considered a vacation, I'd be heading to Mexico.  New Normal never arrived and I'll take my changes with the virus.
"But the virus is everywhere in Mexico."
If you haven't noticed, it's everywhere in Thailand now too.

Political relativism simply doesn't work on me.  I was immune before I reached my teen-aged years.  Blame it on world travel and a military family lifestyle.

So what happened to all the Chinese and well to do investors they expected ? ????

As for 10000 I’m thinking about a third might be actual tourists and rest people with ties to the country that have returned for work or family .

Me and the wife went to central Sunday morning about 11 am had some things to and get some shopping we were there for 2 hours and I must admit you could see a difference there was a increase in farang walking about, we had lunch in the food court it was starting to get busy.

I will bet they are including 8,000 returning ex-pats in these highly deceptive numbers. Granted, even if 100% of the room occupants were tourists, the program is still a massive failure. And wonder why? The list my friend showed me of requirements to get in, was like something out of a post apocalyptic science fiction novel.
