Condo front door propped open despite masked requirements inside building

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

My neighbor opposite insists on leaving his front door propped open to allow him to save money on ac. I've asked him to shut his door as he is effectively breathing mask less into my condo, as it's of course impossible to seal my door entirely or indeed anyone walking by. He refuses to do so and with delta being so infectious, I am really frustrated. My condo office has been of no help.

Has anyone else had this situation?

  • Jeeez Are you living with him, or opposite him? Next you'll be asking for 30-minute time slots to use the lift, or even the stairs! Covid's not going to chase you around the building.

  • Just tell your neighbor you might have covid and are waiting for test result and see how fast he close the door

Thanks for the link to such a wonderful and trustworthy website, that just so happens to be completely full of adverts. Not sure what a Welsh hotel has to do with your case, but good luck in your selfish paranoia.

Crazy to expect people to shut their doors, keep it real

Except they are a bloody nuisance when they disrespect everybody else with noise coming from their shouting or TV and, like my neighbour, only open the door when they are cooking  to let out the smell of their stinky fish food, coz they are too cheap or lazy to get an extraction hood. Doors are meant to be shut, otherwise why have them?

People do that's all the time.  Keeping the airflow moving to cool the room down.

Your going to have to just shut your door  or move.

I've never seen anyone in my condo leaving their door open. But then again, I think that's because that's their preference, not due to any enforceable regulation that says that they need to keep their doors shut.

Our doors start beeping if you don't close them. Haven't seen any regulation (not saying there isn't one) on it but at the same time I've never seen any of the doors open.

Maybe OP could keep his doors open and tell neighbour that he has COVID and air flow helps him breathe easier. Add some coughs to make it more convincing...

Cooling rooms down can be done with fans or a/c. I never leave my door open, I respect my neighbours. My door does not completely stop loud noise or cooking smells coming in from the corridor. In any case why should people have to walk down a smelly corridor every day just because of one inconsiderate fool? Keeping condo doors propped open is a clear case of no right and no responsibility.

Put rubbish bin by your open door, put open jar of plala and durian (or whatever else that stinks terribly you can find) and set up fan so it blow the air out of your room and into his. If you're smoker, puff right next to door to ensure that smoke goes into his room. Refuse to close the door.

Silly. Don't you realise that the smells will permeate the whole corridor and other people's rooms?

What's wrong with a simple tinfoil hat now?  Gone out of fashion?

Not  in a  condo  block it isnt, next  he'll  have the tv  on blaring  all day.

That sounds like a super ghetto building. It obviously should never even be a thing to leave your door open unless you are in a building in the Brazilian barrio or something. If neighbors have this little class time to move.

I would rate leaving your door open all day as people walk by your room about on the same level as walking in to the hallway, dropping trau and taking a steamer for everyone to walk by.

I agree.

But be careful.  You don't want to escalate this to a confrontation.

Perhaps with all this pandemic stuff there may be a nicer condo for a reasonable price in a higher quality condominium that doesn't permit this.

Prices are dirt cheap for rentals at the moment.

Good luck!

Well, no. Fans don’t cool rooms. Leaving your door open does in fact work, but see my above post. You just… can’t….

Those beeping doors.

Sounds like his condo is lower end.  You get what you pay for unfortunately.

I have neighbors across the way, same same. Lots of cooking, and lots of shouting.

From what I gather, it’s home base for gay rent boys, their papasan, and various girlfriends. Fortunately, it’s quiet when there are customers.

Maybe a crack but not wide open.

That and leaving shoe's in the common walkway.

Very ghetto.

That might be followed by a new condo rule to keep doors shut. Mission accomplished.

I weatherstripped my door, so I can’t hear my neighbors.

I  gaffa  taped  mine, havent heard a peep in days  now

I've never lived in a condo, and from the tales I've read I never want to. However could some explain to me how leaving the door open saves money on A/C?

I heard of a guy who felt the same way as you, his name was Howard Hughes, a real “germ freak” used to lock himself up in luxury hotels taking the whole floor so wouldn’t have neighbours germs to worry about????
