Channel 7 reported that a Territorial Defense Volunteer in Naratiwas in the far south of Thailand had his left leg blown off after stepping on a landmine at his rubber plantation in Su-Ngai Padi district.

Rescue teams in Ban Khuan rushed Mooyaiphiphat Prapchomphu to hospital along with his wife Jinda who suffered facial injuries from the blast.

Their daughter who was with them was unharmed.

Police, military and DOPA officials found a one foot deep and two feet wide crater at the scene along with blood and parts of the victim's foot and leg.

He had arrived with his wife and child on a motorcycle to collect latex at the rubber plantation that he owns.

Local officials said it was clear that the defense volunteer was targeted by terrorists who knew he was the owner and that he would go to his plantation.

They warned other volunteers to be vigilant in the face of possible attacks.

Poor guy, feel sorry for him. However, all caused by an incapable Government. Look at Northern Ireland, it can work but needs a brain.

Took quite a few decades for that to happen...perhaps they took awhile to find their brains ?

Ah, the Northern Ireland comparison again. Hugely different history.

Similar in that the land was occupied and populated by invaders a long time back in history (1798), dissimilar in that the incoming population remains the minority (15% Buddhist v 85% Muslim), dissimilar in that partition was imposed without any reference to the local populations wishes (1909 Anglo-Siam Treaty).
