complete nonsense for buying a simple laptop sending emails and browsing the web ????

How old are you?

A much higher pixel count translates into more being displayed onto the screen, which can give you more than 5,200 spreadsheet cells in Microsoft Excel and the ability to display four A4 sheets side by side in Microsoft Word.

At least try to not embarrass yourself.

I just use it for work... mostly programs such as Excel, PowePoint etc. I don't watch movies on it or stream etc or play games on it.

Can anyone recommend a good mid price laptop? Preferably with a decent size screen rather than a 'notebook'?

Can you see reading email and browsing the web there?

So with Full HD screen you can get more on the screen at one time. IPS means better viewing angles.

So to suggest that they are all the same is simply idiotic. To compound such behaviour by attempting to Troll the thread makes you look even worse.

I think the point of "reading emails and web browsing" was to make a point that 4K graphics and special screen size was irrelevant. Most people don't care. All those screens are good enough. If you have to pay much more just for a tiny improvement, then it's ridiculous and pointless for 99% of users. Only an avid Mac user would be that "obsessed" ????

I guess if someone watch porn 24/7 then 4K could be very much relevant and the extra costs fully justified ????

an extra 5,200 spreadsheet cells? Yeah, that's very relevant and an absolute must ???? I don't know how can anyone survive without these

now who is embarrassing himself with those silly requests? ????

Nobody talked about 4k graphics. Screen size and resolution IS important to the tasks actually mentioned by the OP. it was only you who brought up emails and web browsing.

Now, if you please, stop wasting my time with infantile arguments.

Request? What request? Have you been drinking  excessively today?

The OP mentioned Excel and Powerpoint. Screen size and resolution are relevant.

I am simply addressing what you are missing here. Nobody cares about maximum screen size and resolution, as long as it's comfortable to use for reading emails and surfing the web

some IT nerds always think they know best simply basing their silly assumptions on pure specs or worse, obscure specs ????

I have a rooftop terrace. i am always cool and mostly outside. Perhaps you need to find and make some friends. Have a pleasant evening ; though cut down on the drinking.

Going out with friends. Try it.

1366x768 is nonsense, expecially for the work.

Here is an example (I've simply cut the 1920x1080 screenshot to 1366x768).

Of course there are different DPI ("dots per inch") screen settings, but still you'll get the point: cols from A to L, 28 rows on 1366px VS cols from A to Q, 37 rows on 1920px. If I lower the DPI on my 1920 screen I'll get even more info on one page, and if you try to lower the DPI on 1366 screen you still won't match the 1920 screen.

indeed, and imagine working with that large blank spreadsheet, giving me carpet tunnel already just thinking about it ????

when you know that most work in Excel will be less than a few hundred rows and two dozens columns, after that, your brain can't process it ????

Thank you for taking the time to create an illustration for GP. I chose the easy way. If you know someone is not ever going to write something intelligent; you know there will be no downside to putting them on ignore.

Another layman's question .....

How much should I be paying in THB to get the hard drive taken out of my old laptop so I can transfer everything across to the new one?

Depending on the exact model — 0 baht.   If you search on YouTube you may find that it is quite easy.  Then buy an enclosure from Lazada.

If you really feel more comfortable paying someone to do it — 300 baht as an absolute maximum plus the cost of the enclosure.

Well it wouldn't be 0 baht cos I'd have to buy a screwdriver where I am currently haha. Anyway got it done for 0 baht in the shop because I gave them what remained of my old laptop (very old 1st generation Samsung!)
