My kid needs a 1 year visa extension (ED), but her passport would expire just a little before the new "allowed to stay" date.

Will that be OK?

Extension will be given to date of expiry of passport.

Why not renew passport

If a passport has less than one year remaining when a extension is applied for the extension will only be issued to the day it expires.

You need to renew the passport to get the full extension.

Or the extension granted will terminate with the expiry of the passport.

Since the passport would only expire a few days before the 1 year extension, there is no hurry to get a new one
