No idea but it actually looks like a protective shell, was watching it walk along then flying, it left safely.

Sorry, I don't know the name, but here's a clearer photo of one I took on my back porch in Udon.

    Nice bug. Have seen one here in CM too, but that one was green. They are very strange looking, but kind of cute.
