Thailand on Wednesday (September 8 ) reported 14,176 new COVID-19 cases, 16,769 recoveries and 228 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 16,769 recoveries

 13,670 new infections

 506 prison / prison infections

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,322,519 with 13,511 deaths.

(Total infections since April 1: 1,293,656)

The news comes as Thailand’s hospitality industry is struggling with waves of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, various government measures recently launched are expected to turn around the situation, as flights resume and a more effective vaccination rollout is being implemented.

The tourism sector and related businesses such as air travel and restaurants are among the hardest hit by the pandemic. Government agencies have since issued strong measures to help revive and transform such activities in order to respond to post Covid-19 demand.

The numbers have been basically flat for a week or so. I don’t know what that means for the future.

There does however, seem to be a gradual rise in the number of Prison Inmates that are becoming Infected.

The overcrowded prisons are not the best place to have Covid outbreaks, and many , many people in these Jails are at risk with a Prison population of 300 K in Thailand.

I would be interested in a study about the few inmates who never get infected.

Thailand launches mass Covid-19 testing in Bangkok's biggest slum

PUBLISHED

BANGKOK (AFP) - For families struggling to survive on US$150 (S$202) a month in Bangkok's biggest slum, coronavirus swab tests are a luxury that few can afford.

The Khlong Toei slum, where an estimated 100,000 people live packed into tiny, overcrowded dwellings, has been a major concern as Thailand battles its third wave of the pandemic.

Now the Bangkok Community Help Foundation, a charity, has launched a mass testing drive to try to identify cases and help stop Khlong Toei from becoming a reservoir that reinfects the whole city.

Only if vaccination targets among locals are met and after an assessment of the health services' ability to cope going forward.

Rather than just throwing hopeful dates out there they would be far better adopting a risk-based approach to opening.

Of course if a risk-based approach had been utilised from the beginning and not the pin the tail on the donkey bafflement we continue to witness, there may have been a far better chance of opening far sooner or, *whispers in hushed tones* no need to have closed down everything in the first place...

Or at least, "we will open when X percent are fully vaccinated, and the positivity rate is below 3 percent".
