Navigating a labyrinth of documents, being put in a Covid prison and forced to pay for insurance I don't need does not make me feel Welcome. Try again.

No quarantine should mean that tourist movements are unrestricted from day 1. The lockdown on site for 7 days followed by travel on "sealed routes" for 7 days is quarantine and not acceptable. No

  • Probably not. This adds to the "reopening" paradox.    They are under some illusion that the bladdy tourists/travellers are gonna come in droves.  Not with the standing quarantine or pa

  • There is nothing open in Pattaya - 90% of the city is shuttered and closed    it is even difficult to find a 7/11 open   Plus there still remains a curfew in place from 9pm

I follow these posts/"stories"/fantasies because I want to come back from California to BKK in December to renew my Non-O for one more (probably last) time, and to work on the gradual removal of my money, stuff, heart from LOS. But if the three biggies-quarantine, ins., COE-are still in place I may just wait till next year. It will be a slow motion separation.

That sounds more like what someone who is trying to quit drinking would say.  "I'll just have this one last bender and then I am quitting for good."

You should create yet another "I am taking my ball and going home" thread where you all can go and continue to bash Thailand some more.

They will enjoy it, no bars open, no alcohol with your meal, back home at 9, no family things to go to. Great fun for your holiday

Non-sequitur response

This kind of opening, we are talking about a metropolis, plans and backup plans should already been in place.

Anyways, it would be nice...Cheaper for expats and returning thais, as I suppose many hotels would join the great programme.Very good idea, partial Bangkok reopening.Keep tourists confined to Khao San and have tuk tuk drivers to control them.

I really like functional governments!

Need to copy Italy. Fully vaxxed arrivals don't need to quarantine. While there is this over the top COE and ASQ requirement no one will come. Also Thailand needs to get their population vaxxed so covid becomes a inconvenient flu rather than life threatening.

Phase 2 of national reopening plan begins in October

By Praphorn Praphornkul

BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has reiterated health and safety measures as it prepares for the second phase of its tourism reignition plan and many look forward to the annual high season.

Proceeding along its path to again welcome foreign travelers after having notable success with its Sandbox programs over the past two months, producing 1.634 billion baht in revenue, the government is poised to continue the effort to support economic recovery.

In October, the administration is to implement its Universal Prevention measures while entering the second phase of its reopening timeline, which will see Bangkok, Chonburi, Petchaburi, Prachuapkirikan and Chiang Mai allowed to receive foreign guests once again, on the condition they meet vaccination targets. The Bangkok Sandbox and Hua Hin Recharge campaigns have already been outlined in anticipation of the transition.

Phase three of the plan is to begin in the middle of October and see 21 more provinces reopen under strict COVID-19 prevention measures. The fourth phase begins in January of next year and will focus on 13 border provinces and the use of travel bubbles.

One province slated to reopen on October 1st is Chonburi with its Pattaya Moves On program covering Pattaya, Bang Lamung and Sattahip. Various committees have been established in anticipation of the date, and they will oversee matters such as meeting a 70 percent vaccination target in the local population.

Visitors to Chonburi will have to be fully vaccinated or have RT-PCR test results from their country of origin and a health certificate. They will have to submit to another RT-PCR test upon arrival in Chonburi and undergo a total of three checks during their stay, the second being during the first six to seven days of their stay and the third on the fourteenth day.

Travelers must book and stay at an SHA+ certified hotel and will only be able to travel over sealed or flexible sealed routes, notifying their hotel of their plans beforehand. While visitor numbers are not expected to be high, they are anticipated to be high capacity visitors.

I thought the attractions and national parks had been allowed to open. Whether it is worth their while is another matter.... certainly not be a money spinner, if only local people paying  10% of the special price.

Thailand "welcoming foreign travellers"? Having read the details I wonder whether the word "welcome" may have lost something in translation?

Here is scheme idea, learn and accept Covid is never going away. Open the country to those who are fully vaccinated, no COE, no quarantine, and not be tracked like a wanted felon.

  • Popular Post

so lets compare

- local foreigner/thai fully vaccinated - no restrictions or multiple tests

- foriegner on holiday fully vaccinated - 5 covid tests in Thailand - restricted expensive accommodation, restricted movement, if gets local infection and fails test is put under house arrest

what's not to like

OMG Is this the PMs promise to open Thailand up fully at the beginning of October

I am willing to come , but they have to make a plan and a exact date and the requirements . Under kind of sandbox scheme , where i am able to go outside my room , i am willing to take the hurdles involved . Since it can take upto 20 days for a COE to come in , and im not booking any flight before i know it is happening .

Exactly. Why does anyone with common sense not understand that you need EXACT rules probably at least 30 days ahead of time to really book a trip/ visit etc. let's face it, Anyone who wants to really visit Thailand ( who is doubled vaxed) and wants to come for at least 60 to 90 days ( and spend $$$) needs NO or very short ( 7 days max) quarantine. No insurance BS ETC

Sure !

"Hua Hin Today: Only people who have been fully vaccinated or have a negative COVID-19 test result will be allowed to dine in at restaurants in Hua Hin from 1st October"

Source : https://www.huahintoday.com/hua-hin-news/vaccine-proof-needed-to-dine-in-hua-hin-restaurants-from-oct-1/

Stop the non sense. Scrap all Covid so called "restrictions". Open up the country.

Get vaccinations to a decent level, THEN open up the country.

in other words, do steps one and two, then three.

if they don’t dare to open schools, don’t mess around with tourists.

That tracked like a wanted felon practice is well known to foreign residents who, in very vague theory, are suppose to report their every movements throughout the provinces; report change of address; run through the series of immigration bureaucracy; etc.....

All of which, isn't abided by nor is any of this <deleted> enforced.

Part of the game.

madness

It is not difficult to find a 7eleven open, certainly not in Central Pattaya where most visitors would be going. Sorry Smedders but I don't know where you got that from.

They'll get a few, but there's not many to go round and all they're going to end up doing is diluting the numbers that would have gone through Phuket Sandbox and we know the majority of those were returning Thai's and longterm stayers/expats.

Attempting to open up when you have failed to open up basic social services such as education is unethical and plain wrong

An hour ago I had a cup of coffee from one in Soi Post Office (13/2 to the know nothings) I could have had a cup from the one on the corner of 2nd Road. So if that is having a laugh then yes I am.

Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Chiang Mai will be added to a programme in which fully vaccinated visitors who commit to a series of tests can enter, under certain criteria, said government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchan

While the vast majority of Thais are still waiting for their first vaccination...

Complete madness.

These tourists should not forget what will happen if they get Covid here. Then their holiday might be a very special experience and it will not be "up to them" anymore. Vaccination doesn't guarantee that they will not get Covid.

Not with the standing quarantine or partial quarantine, COE nonsense and mandated insurance scam still in practice.

To truly open, they need to completely remove these requirement - and take their chances.

To truly open they need to vaccinate their own population to the same standard that they expect international tourists to have.
