Schools Opening on Monday?

Unity Concord sent out a message to parents on Tuesday night that said it's among the schools that were approved to open (under whatever conditions the government is imposing) for on-site learning on September 20th.  There are still a few days between now and then for things to change, but hopefully the kids can get back to some semblance of 'normal'.

This is the list as it currently stands- I won't be shocked if the opening is delayed, but hopefully it won't be:

While we're at it: school opening in Buriram has been postponed three times, the second time on the Sunday night at 10 pm, "no school tomorrow" and again yesterday afternoon, "not tomorrow. wait another two weeks". 

They do the same thing with school holidays also, never mind.

Interesting ! So Chiang Mai would be the first province to reopen (a few) schools, under the special "rules", even before Bangkok ?

 

Have you received the details of those special "rules" ? Thanks to share.

 

After a quick search on FB, it's confirmed.

 

American Pacific International just said that they reopen... today !

One rule (besides the usual distancing procedures, masks, and temp checks) is a testing requirement- students must show a negative ATK test taken within 72 hours prior to returning to school.

OK. That's really positive (we are far from the so called "sandbox schools" (vaccination compulsory, 1 or 2 tests per week etc.).

Covid central is Cong to schools.  Did you hear about the boarding school in Nong Khai that re opened recently,  1000 students,  1 week later nearly 400 confirmed covid cases,  it's too soon and no vaccinated kids!

My son's private school in Chiang Mai just informed parents that they would finish the first semester, which is about to end, online then open for on-site classes when the second semester begins at the end of October.  I am happy with that decision.

Is it just me or does anyone else also wonder, that Chiang Mai alone has THAT many private schools? 

I grew up in the 60s and 70s and there was no such thing as private schools; yet we all learnt three languages apart from a profound knowledge in humanities, maths, geometry, geography etc. - all that in nine years of free of charge schooling in Switzerland ........

So what? It is very rare for kids to die of Covid, and even if vaccinated they will still be able to get infected and spread it further. Plenty of evidence that you don't need (shouldn't in my view) vaccinate  kids against Covid. Closing schools is nonsense.

Has anyone heard from their kid's schools about the rules for these re-openings?

 

Like, what if you don't want your child vaccinated, or what happens when there is a positive case at the school?

 

Or do the schools assume all parents are sheep?

This will certainly depend on decisions made at the provincial level. You don't want your child to be vaccinated? Who cares, they will come home one day and tell you they got the shot. If you do manage to tell them you don't want them vaccinated, they'll say "fair enough, find another school".

ONE positive (that is a PCR positive result, which strictly speaking, isn't a 'case' without symptoms) will result in having the whole school euthanised.

Even the school (private, not govt) doesn't know what happens if the kids don't get vaccinated.

 

I don't know what the sudden rush to open is for.  Only a week more of school this term.  I'm not anti vaccine, had my first already, but reluctant to have my 12 year old get one.  The 17 year old can have one pfizer, but I don't want him to have the second.

 

IMHO it looks like the schools want to open before the break, to get the unpaid fees paid, coz I reckon they'll be closing again pdq.

Yes, I got an email yesterday from my daughters school, locate in Bangkok around Thong Lor, that there's a high probability, they will reopen on Sept 27th, with the following conditions.
Sandbox: Safety Zone in School programme whilst some children may wish to continue learning at home. I would like to inform you that we have sent our request to the relevant authorities, and we are expecting approval to open in the near future. This means that we could have small groups of children coming onto our campuses under certain COVID-19 preventative measures. We have requested to begin this hybrid model on Monday 27th September, but we are waiting for final approval from the relevant authorities. Although, I have previously listed some COVID-19 preventative measures that will be required when international day schools open, I would like to make you aware of a few additional details (announced on 15/09/21) with regards to the preventative safety measures that need to be in place in all day schools in Bangkok:
● All staff and students will need to take an Antigen Test Kit (ATK) twice a week (Sunday and Wednesday evenings) and send their results to     the school so we can ensure the safety of our community. For younger children, parental assistance may be required, at your own cost.
● All staff and students will be required to take the ‘Thai Safe Thai’ risk assessment survey each day. For younger children, parental assistance may be required.
● Access to school campuses will be permitted with the presentation of a ‘School Pass’. This School Pass will be automatically issued upon successful completion of the negative ATK test and Thai Safe Thai completion.
● Parents/students who wish to purchase uniforms, collect a transcript/school document or make a school fee payment, please email [email protected] beforehand as these activities will have to be scheduled by appointment only.
● Lunch will be pre packed and sealed hygienically. Alternatively, children can bring their own packed lunch.
● When the children are in school they will be taught in ‘bubbles’. This means they are part of an identified and contained group.

I hope the govt plans to start handing out ATK free to the students like the rest of the world, rather than make money from it.

No, the parents have to pay for the test, at least that's what my school says.

It may be splitting hairs, but the use of "COVID-19 preventative measures" would be better expressed as the mitigation of or the lessening of COVID-19 transmission.  We do know how to diminish the risk of infection; preventing it altogether is another thing.

Preventative measures do prevent it altogether for many people.

Yup, I dropped my kid off at school this morning.  Hopefully nothing comes up and it stays open.  I heard other schools in CM not on the list above will open in October, but I don't know that for sure.

One test for today's opening, and then they randomly test 20% of the student body every month.  No vaccine requirement (yet, anyway).

Not all schools have this requirement - example Prem does not have it.
