The powers to be don't want the bars and clubs opened or alcohol sold in restaurants or if they could get away with it without the people coming after them with pitch forks and anything else a total ban on alcohol

It's just not safe. Neither is dining really. I'd love to see them open, but it just won't happen this year and maybe not for another 12 months or so. The way this government is mis-handling the pandemic, the bars are all screwed. Few will survive. Minimum start time, Maybe, 2025, even their banks are saying that. Thai Gov keep coming up with something to say on a daily basis, they really need to shut up, get their act together until they have something real to announce.

This place is not Europe with much more interesting historical sites, venues, much better varied geographics. Phuket is much more oriented for family vacations with broader beach resorts and family oriented facilities. Most do not come here for the culture or nature, jeez how stupid. They need to realize the truth that 2 week millionaire male tourists and male entertainment venues/activities will be the only way for Pattaya to make any kind of recovery from this. So, open their minds and figure out ways to attract the millions of males in the world who want to come to Pattaya and enjoy a good time. That is exactly what they don't want, smack bang in the middle of their new Eastern Economic Corridor dream. They want rid of the sex-tourism industry mate, not attract more of it! 1 1

So you think that the government are out to attract customers that don't want to drink and socialize in bars and restaurants and that only sex tourists do that? That's the daftest explanation I have heard to date to justify locking down entertainment venues! And all the customers in this new ' Utopia ' are going to be teetotal, spend their holidays looking at glass and painted gold temples and in bed by 8pm? ' enshrined in the constitution ' where the hell did you get that one from? I remember a while ago their esteemed ' Big Joke ' getting his car shot up in Bangkok's ' massage parlour ' district, a euphemism for the knocking shop streets! Wjho are you trying to kid here ?? Scouse123
The alcohol ban is a misguided effort from pumpkin face and his entourage in government to slap a ban because they think Thais and tourists alike cannot control themselves when they drink alcohol and that inhibitions are lowered and therefore they will not follow the rules on mask wearing and social distancing. All this ' part of a grand plan ' as suggested by the conspiracy theorists on TVF to clean up Thailand by its puritanical leaders are just blowing smoke! Those asses in government don't think that far ahead and you give them way too much credit. Thailand has one of the highest alcohol per capita ratios in SE Asia.
