Also, much of the violent crime is inter-personal, familial, or business related. Random stranger danger is quite rare...unlike in the West. ''Random stranger danger is quite rare...unlike in the West.'' and how do you know that when news dont report on all crimes or violence? and certinly not english speaking thai news, and i assume you cant read thai. Seeing as you said Thailand rather than Pattaya, yes, yes, yes. There is more to Thailand that a bunch of unattractive concrete buildings in Pattaya, and yes, it is better than anywhere else I can think of for reasons that are more about the character and safety of the place than the infrastructure. NB I'm not talking about the traffic when I refer to "safety". IMO the traffic is one of the major problems that Thailand has.

My opinion of Thailand is correct from my perspective, if you have a different view I accept that. You may have noticed that forums can be made up of opinions. You then point out , I presume quite accurately that 'no one needs to be homeless in my part of the UK' which I accept; now let me have your first hand knowledge of all the other areas in the UK. My comment was to contrast the original post that mentioned there were large numbers of homeless in Pataya and as I stayed in the City last week and only saw 1 then I challenge you to explain why you believe my post was 'ill informed'. There are many great aspects to the UK , I'm not so sure that paying people to sit at home being unproductive is going to play out well financially in the long run, but again that's my opinion. What has Thailand done for its citizens? '....ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” Springs to mind. All this notwithstanding Thailand has done very little financially to help people through this pandemic. Opinions still need to be justified to some extent. And what have you done for England/Thailand?

I don't get why farangs want the benefits of a capitalist society ( with loads of poor people ) in good times, but expect it to change to a socialist one in the bad times. Before corona some lived in their cars or garages, and costs since early 2020 have increased substantialy. I didn't burn any bridges, and the horrid woman got my house. I'm not really complaining about the cost of houses as I'm not even trying to buy one. Worst happens I can buy a campervan and live in a car park ( which they had to allow given so many homeless ), so not even that worried about rents. True, but if inflation increases the reserve bank has to put up interest rates, and then the screaming really starts when people lose their houses as can't afford the mortgage any more ( bought when the interest rate is probably the lowest in our lifetimes ). I can remember when I got 12% in a bank on savings, instead of almost 1% or less now. At the rate petrol is going up in price inflation can't be far away. spidermike007
The homeless population is growing in Bangkok too. The economy is in the toilet. Some talent, and a few adults are required to come up with a plan, and open back up to tourism. Coward leaders are not what Thailand needs right now. And the people need more assistance from the stingy leaders. Edited September 26, 2021 by spidermike007
