With the numbers falling, surely they can give something-Massage and spas to fully operate, booze with outdoor dining, for example, sort of like a controlled opening, see how that goes???

Jomtiem was busy this weekend, lots of Thais came to the beach, was good to see places busy, most were just boozing on the roadside/back of pick up trucks, as the would do normally.

 

 

it does not matter if you have an issue with the curfew or not. It’s like saying, ahh — I don’t really care if I lose my ability to speak freely and protest. That may very well be true, but again, it don’t matter. This is Thailand though and they can do what they want. 
 

The Thais are worried about looking irresponsible on a world tourism stage in my opinion. There is no logical other reason to remained closed. Same with vaccine requirements for incoming travelers. No reason for them, there is covid already here. It’s all a dog and pony show, and all we can do is hope the lipstick comes off the pig sooner rather than later.

Bangkok may reopen cinemas, gyms, spas – but no clubs or nightclubs

 

A decision is expected today on whether preschools, museums, massage joints and other businesses in Bangkok and other hard-hit provinces may reopen – though nightclubs and bars were not mentioned.

 

The COVID-19 task force this afternoon will consider 10 types of businesses, including cinemas, spas, tattoo shops, indoor gyms and museums in Bangkok and 28 other so-called dark red provinces may reopen months after they were shut to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Widespread testing cuts down Covid cases in Koh Tao

 

Conducting tests among residents has effectively eased the Covid-19 situation in Surat Thani’s Koh Tao island, provincial authorities said on Sunday.

 

The operation was launched when more than 100 Covid-19 cases were reported after the island opened to tourists on July 15 as part of the Samui Plus Model.

 

However, the authorities announced on Sunday that almost 98 per cent of the island’s population has been tested for Covid-19 and the infection rate is under control.

PM Wants ATKs Available at Stores, Online

 

BANGKOK, Sept 27 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered the Public Health Ministry to make COVID-19 antigen test kits (ATKs) available at general and online stores and assigned the Government Pharmaceutical Organization to procure them for sales at low prices.

 

Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said the prime minister wanted the Public Health Ministry and other concerned organizations to guarantee that general people and small-scaled business operators have adequate access to ATKs at reasonable prices.

 

In response, the board of the Food and Drug Administration resolved to allow general stores to sell legally supplied ATKs without having to register for the sales, in addition to ATKs available at drug stores with pharmacists.

I have not seen anywhere that says Sinovac is being used here in Thailand as a booster shot.  I did see an OP where starting October 1st that the primary vaccination would be done with Sinovac and then the second vaccination done with AZ.  That is on of the mixtures they have been using and one reason it would appear they have ordered sinovac in quantity.  However, I also saw an OP, but there has been no follow-up reports that stated they would be giving the AZ vaccine as a first jab and then the second would be Pfizer.  However as far as boosters go they are currently doing Pfizer from what another OP also indicated.  Still waiting to hear which vaccine they are currently using in a fractional dose for the intradermal vaccination given as a booster which they started to do in Phuket.  With the amount of Pfizer and Moderna they have ordered upI still have not heard of any of it arriving to be here other than anecdotal evidence of Moderna arriving this next month, supposedly, and the Pfizer that has arrived has been donated by the US, with J&J donated by France for it's citizens.  Interesting times ahead as how many of these vaccinations are of the original formula and how many have been adjusted to meet future variants like they do with  the annual Flu Vaccines.

Testing using what procedure PCR or ATK testing?, and obviously if it is being done via ATK testing it is not getting counted as a true case for publication as Covid, but noted as a possible case.  Are they continuing weekly with the testing of the population because there is no way that one and done will truly tell you that covid cases are under control.  Reminds me of a lady missing her monthly period, testing to see if she may be pregnant, finding she is not by the test and then 9 months later a baby surprisingly being born when she just thought she was getting fat.  You can't be just a little bit pregnant and you can not have Covid just a little bit without it spreading via asymptomatic folks or pre-symptomatic ones thinking they may have a just a cold that grows into a full blown case and then once they go to the hospital they find they have covid. Also reminds me of those people that have been vaccinated, tested negative prior to flying and being negative upon arrival here in quarantine, and then the next test shows they are positive.  The point I am trying to make here is that Thailand is being remiss with the reduction in testing in the entire country.

Sorry I missed that one, must not have had enough coffee today.  Been reviewing Covid information since early trying to understand all of the breakthrough cases and the possible reasons surrounding them elsewhere, and the lack of follow-up here in Thailand on those breakthrough cases to see exactly what vaccines the folks had been vaccinated with.  Thailand needs to step up it's genomic sequencing and then post a breakdown of the individuals ages and the issues associated with the breakthrough cases.  Antibodies are an interesting issue as not everyone's immune system builds the antibodies in the same numbers.  Not sure if Thailand is following any groups of people from first vaccination through the second and then onward.  I know they have been doing their own trials of vaccines they are making, but unlike other countries I have yet to see anything posted in regards to ongoing studies.

Today I discussed the "under the skin" reduced dose method of vaccination with my sister, an accomplished doctor from N. America.  She stated that this method makes little sense as the vaccine is designed to stimulate antibody production from manufacture inside muscle cells.  Under the skin is mainly fat and the required cells to initiate the antibody production are not so present.  She also stated that limited testing was most likely done using this method and that measurement of antibodies does not necessarily correlate to a healthy immune response against COVID.  Currently to my understanding this new "under the skin" method is only being used as a booster shot.  It is my strong opinion that before this method is used as a primary method of vaccination adequate testing must be done to insure proper immune response, not just the testing of antibody production.  With the projected surplus of vaccine in Thailand over the next several months it appears that the risks of undergoing this new method are not justified and I hope that the people in Thailand receive the proper amount of vaccine as is practiced around the rest of the world.

Agree although my opening comment to that was more to do with some posters yesterday saying that testing was a waste of time.
