It's actually a very convenient way to stay for 9 months in the current environment. Not sure where the scam is. If you've spent time and have any friends in Thailand it's incredibly easy to sort out a very reasonably priced rental.

I have my own apartment in Thailand, why would I have to show any proof of hotel when/ if I arrive on longstay ?

Perhaps the STV is not aimed at you and an alternative one could work better.

You don't, STV asks for one of: hotel booking, lease ogreememt or condo title deed.
