The Royal Thai Police have warned parents and guardians that they could face prosecution and even jail themselves if they allow their children to gamble.

The warning came from RTP spokesman Pol Col Siriwat Deephor who was speaking at HQ.

He said that RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengdyodsuk was behind the suggestion.

Siriwat said that Thai youth was increasingly becoming victim to pressure online to engage in gambling that led to losses and other crime., reported Daily News

Specifically he referred to a case earlier in the week when a 16 year old armed with a knife had attacked a householder and resident in Photaram district of Ratchaburi in central Thailand.

The teen needed money to pay off gambling debts.

The person behind the betting operation is being prosecuted.

He warned parents that they could face 30,000 baht fines and three months jail if it was proven that they knowingly allowed their children to gamble.

The RTP always has one word ready... " jail." ...I think they like jail everybody in THailand. .There are other solutions too, but they never heard of it and besides with the corruption in this organisation it is easier  to threaten with jail, because it will be easier to collect money

I have never seen a group of people gamble so well as Thai Policemen....

I have witnessed on numerous occasions the lengths they go to in setting up rooms, hotel suites and hold mass parties.

Gambling is so endemic in this country, just let it happen. There really is no point in banning something which people are going to do anyway.

IF the government were really mature they’d offer education on the risks of gambling to all and free advise assistance to those who need it. They’d clamp down on loan sharks and regulate gambling.

As far as the ‘cards gambling’ goes - thats more of a social activity than anything else - but there is something wrong with society when friends do not mind taking 100’s of thousands of baht off other ‘so called’ friends.

From the ground up there needs to be advice and a better moral education not just the juvenile faux outrage and ‘bringing the reputation of Thailand into disrepute’ news we read of on a daily basis....

Unless of course if the gambling venue is police-owned.

Waiting for them to ban kids games of snakes and ladders and such as its a game of chance and can lead to heavy gambling and borrowing money from sharks !

Just noticed yesterday at the newly renovate Union Mall here in Bangkok they have installed the arcade games where you use the crane to grab and win a toy.  I know they outlawed them awhile back as it being a game of chance and therefore gambling.  Wonder if I let my GF's daughter play it we would be arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and allowing her to gamble.......
