BANGKOK (Reuters) - Two Buddhist monks in Thailand have become social media stars with Facebook livestreams that combine traditional teachings with non-traditional jokes and giggles. Some of the country's religious conservatives, however, are not so amused.

Travellers from three border provinces to Songkhla face tighter controls

Checkpoints have been set up on main roads linking Thailand’s Songkhla province with Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat for the random screening of people coming from the three southern border provinces, in an escalated attempt to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Immigration Bureau boss signals new orders so police can easily track down foreign suspects in Thailand

Scenes from the arrest of 37-year old Robert A. in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok on Saturday the 2nd October after he, earlier that week, brutally raped a 45-year-old masseuse in Khon Kaen and attacked a 12-year-old girl on the side of the road. 

 

The newly installed immigration police chief wants to create a climate of fear against foreign criminals who are waiting for the opportunity to use Thailand as a base for their operations once inward tourism resumes into the country on a wider scale when the COVID-19 crisis ends.

Domestic travel: Thais are saddled with debt and nearly half have no plans to go anywhere in 4th Quarter

A survey jointly carried out in August and September by Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the National Tourism Council indicated that many Thais are so saddled by debt and lowered salaries that they have no plans to go anywhere in the fourth quarter.

Phuket marks 156 new COVID cases, two more deaths

Intoxicated man allegedly sets fire to his own home, destroys neighbor’s house in Chonburi

Chonburi – An intoxicated man allegedly burnt down his own house this week in Chonburi and in the process also destroyed his neighbors home, with whom he had reportedly been having a public feud for some time. The suspect has denied the allegations and claims the entire incident was an accident and has counter-alleged that his neighbors assaulted him following the fire.

WHO approves Siam Bioscience’s AstraZeneca vaccine for emergency use

The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved Siam Bioscience Company Limited, a Thai company, as a qualified production site for AstraZeneca vaccine and added the company to its Emergency Use Listing (EUL).
