Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has directed the Department of Fisheries to step up the suppression of illegal fishing while providing compensation for unregistered fishing vessels that have not violated the law.

Provide compensation to un-registered fishing vessels that have not violated the law?

Hmmmm.

IUU fishing from the Thais is rampant and always has been. There are just too many highly influential people in this game.

There are now Thai fleets almost everywhere, feeding mother ships and staying at sea for months on end.

Thailand does not want to stop this business....but does want to be noticed and seen to be doing something. Nowadays the world is wising up and know how Thais think.

Oh dear, not another crackdown? The previous crackdowns (there have been so many, many, many) have all been an utter failure. They keep doing the same old thing over and over again and keep expecting a different result. I think that was Einstein’s definition of insanity.

We all know where this is going.

...and these aspects appear to missed so consistently [as do challenging/questioning] throughout contemporary journalistic endeavors. Real journalism has been dying for some time now.

Don't know which is worse - the original pieces or those syndicates that wish to republish the stories.
