UK now recognises Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines

Good news for people in Thailand wishing to travel to the UK.

The British government has announced that it is expanding its list of approved vaccines for inbound travel to the UK.

From 22 November, the British government will recognise the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines, as well as India’s Covaxin vaccine.

This means that people in Thailand who have been vaccinated with either Sinovac and Sinopharm will be able to visit the UK more easily.

People who have been fully vaccinated with Sinovac or Sinopharm in Thailand, as well as with one of the UK’s approved vaccines, who have received a vaccine certificate will not be required a pre-departure COVID-19 test, day eight test or to self-isolate upon arrival.

Instead, they will now just need to take a lateral flow test before the end of their second day after arrival in the UK.

The British government also announced that it is simplifying travel rules for under 18s.

Also from 22 November, children aged 17 and under will not have to be quarantined when they arrive in England if they are resident in the UK, or in a "country or territory with an approved proof of vaccination".

It also applies to the "children of someone who is fully vaccinated under the UK overseas vaccination programme".

The government website confirmed it also applies "whether they are vaccinated or not".

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said:

“As we continue to recover from the pandemic and expand our recognition of international vaccines, today’s announcements mark the next step in our restart of international travel.

“By also simplifying the rules for international travel for all under-18s coming to England, we’re bringing further good news for families looking to unite with loved ones, and another great boost for the travel sector.

Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid said:

“Today’s announcement is another step forward for the travel industry, businesses and for family and friends wanting to reunite or go abroad.

“The red list and quarantine system remain vital in protecting our borders and as we’ve said we will not hesitate to take action by adding countries to the red list if necessary.”

On the face of it great news but do not forget the UK Citizens returning to Thailand for instance would be subjected to strict Covit medical insurance and very costly and not sure if the Thais are covered and know covered in Thailand.
Families could still be split up.
Or am I missing something and as UK citizens we not entitled to medical care , even though paid our dues for 40 or 50 years and yes travel insurance for Thais?

40,000+ cases and 150-200 deaths a day isn’t my idea of a continued recovery.. I’d call it desperation.

My Stepson, who carries a UK passport will be travelling to the UK in 3 weeks he has had two vaccines here in Thailand of Sinovac & Astra Zeneca. Obviously his Vaccine certifications are both In Thai. Where and how would he get an English version as gov.uk says the Name d.o.b  vaccine, issuing country must be in English. I’m assuming going to a local doctor translating the certificate and signing it would not be acceptable.
Does anybody have any idea where we can pay way over the odds for such a document ????

Many countries are making it very easy for people to enter but Thailand is requiring many things prior to being able to come here keeping many people from coming here TIT

The certificate will be available on Mor Phrom with English annotation for the relevant fields. You have to watch the name, if copied from the Thai every chance it will be wrong. This can be corrected by the vaccination centre that did the vaccination.

If the app is too much of a problem I believe there has been vaccination offices set up in most of the larger government hospitals, certainly one in mine. You can go there and they will print off a certificate free of charge.

The other option is to apply for the international certificate, think they are available at certain locations for 50 baht.

Add to that the stuff in the news about how people are being treated by the health system if they are positive on arrival in TL, or even if they are a contact or seated near a positive, means that you'd be at risk of being diagnosed as insane to come right now. Disorganised chaos verging on criminal extortion.

They all went for soft targets like the Thaipass and efforts to attract foreigners.

I say you believe in them if you want, but me, I see exactly what the UK is up to.

The UK has been opened for months. It's called living with the virus.

Cases have been falling for over a week.

Thailand hasn't even reopened yet.

If/when they do, cases will surge.

Do you know how Thailand will react if cases start rising?

Close everything again?

Thailand doesn't know what day of the week it is.

It's a complete joke.

And yet the statistics for both countries tell a very different story.

Yesterday’s figures relate to Sunday. For a more realistic figure watch what happens today. The weekend figures are always lower.

The certificate I received from the hospital in Bangkok was in Thai and English. If you have Mor Phrom it’s also in both languages.
