Alas still resting on past laurels. Time to regroup and re-brand. Lets call it Thailand 5.0 where we want folks who will buy up the empty condos, work for a pittance while paying taxes, and yet already be true millionaires and get those free visas. Does someone see any issues......rhetorical question. Thailand is stuck in the past while other countries around her move forward into the 22nd century. In one study of SE Asian countries and which ones will be the most prolific and advanced in 20 years time , Thailand did not make the top 5 ! Even Myanmar was mooted as having huge potential once it gets over the present crisis .

I was invited to attend the wedding of the daughter of the owner of a steel mill in Delhi held in a 5 stars Hotel in downtown Bangkok. It was typical Indian wedding that will spend money to ensure a wedding that will be remembered forever. The immediate family booked at least 20 rooms and close friends and business associates came along too and stayed for next 5 days. Talking to the father, I was told it's common for Indians to come to Bangkok and hold weddings because of its proximity to India, unparallelled hospitality and value for money. Sounds ghastly.
Popular Post Oblomov
Thailand has its place in the world - it is (was) fun, relatively affordable for the masses that liked good fun and some good beaches and islands. Good food. Some decent people assuming you're hanging out with the right crowd. Nice pools in most buildings. Great hub to get down to Bali or a city break to KL, Hanoi or Phnom Penh. A wild nightlife if you want it. Accept that and take the money and improve the the nation's infrastructure, education and health, roads even though we all know they will not/have not in better times etc.. Delusional and vague initiatives to attract these so called wealthy tourists ignores the fact that they're not coming to Thailand. Thailand has a product that sells - it's called fun and relaxation - does it really matter who buys it?

NanaSomchai
Dear Prayuth, dear Anutin, Here's some of your wealthy "quality" tourists in action... press PLAY. ???????????? More seriously though... it's good to see things are potentially going back to their "normal". Note as stated in the video it appears there's a 11PM curfew no one seems to abide to and clearly not enough police forces to enforce any "rules" anyway (as you can see at around 5:53 in the video, 1 single BiB and 1 single tourist police guy). I'm not going to drag this any further along and claim that "Thailand is back!" but I must admit these few early signs are... "encouraging" to say the least. A picture is worth a thousands words so have a good watch as this was filmed last night and uploaded to YouTube just a few hours ago. Meanwhile in Pattaya... ZZZ nothing. Popular Post tomacht8
Really amateur thinking. A stable business in tourism is built primarily with repeat customers. It is 7 to 10 times more expensive to acquire a new customer than to keep an existing one. You learn something like that at the university in the course: Tourism, already in the first semester. Also the demonization of the young backpackers. What does TAT think who has bought all the condos and holiday homes in Phuket, Samui, etc. so far? These are almost all former backpackers who fell in love with Thailand 20-30 years ago and now belong to the established, well-deserved class of the 40-50 year olds. It is the same with retirees. 99% are not in Thailand for the first time and know the country and people very well. And all those who have already spent a lot of time in Thailand are often visited by friends and acquaintances from their home countries. The whole thing is called in marketing: Customer Lifecycle Value. Developing a first-time customer into a returning existing customer and then using him as a recommendation customer to acquire new customers. Conceptually, I find it very poor how Thailand is developing its tourism. So far, Thailand had just been lucky because of its geographical location and its natural wealth. The current Corvit crisis has relentlessly revealed how short-term the previous tourism was organized. From 40 million down to 2.3.4 million. The majority of the foreigners who are in Thailand now, are foreigners with Thai families and pensioners with a regular foreign income. And now those responsible are chasing castles in the air like VIP Indians getting married, rich retirees, rich investors, etc. At the moment I don't see any sustainable tourism development planning, just as usuall: a short-term patchwork, where nothing really fits together. (Visa, infrastructure, target groups, market development, service, product, price). Edited November 10, 2021 by tomacht8
Popular Post JCauto
As one of the billions of potential tourists who have been deemed "low quality", may I ask if that was the Thai Government's "inside voice" speaking again?

Willy Wombat
Delusional Thailand is in no position to pick and choose who that want to visit their kingdom. Andycoops
And as seen in the adjacent article, you do indeed need to be wealthy upon arrival in Thailand because if you test positive you get whopped with a 350,000 baht bill and there is no mention of that fact in the process of meeting the entry requirements.
