Popular Post webfact
Picture: Chiang Mai News A Thai tourist told the police that he mistakenly put his foot on the accelerator rather than the brake after his vehicle "went into the wrong gear". Thalay, 28, from Muang Kanchanaburi was caught on video at a Covid checkpoint for entry into Mae Hong Son in Pai district reversing at speed into several officials at a tent. Two named as Pathompong and Pornthep were taken to Pai Hospital with some serious chest, arm, leg and head injuries. Pornthep suffered a fractured skull. Thalay said his vehicle had been having problems. The police are waiting on the extent of the injuries before charging him with negligent driving, reported Chiang Mai News. Picture: Chiang Mai News For Pathompong it was the second accident in little over a month. His mother Aporn - known locally as Aunty Laeng of Muang Pai - said he had been off work for a month after falling off a bridge. He was just back at work after slipping vertebrae in his neck. The incident at the checkpoint happened as many tourists were moving between provinces on Saturday afternoon. Kaopad999
It was the local spirits that caused that. And, no, i'm not talking about the Ghost type of spirits..
Popular Post richard_smith237
This is simply someone who cannot drive, put the car (likely auto) in reverse instead of drive and then panicked... somehow couldn’t hit the brake and pressed the accelerator harder... Utter idiot - someone who should never be driving in the first place. As JoePai wrote... “they live among us” - which is frightening.... That said: Thailand as a nation sets itself up for these catastrophic and wholly avoidable accidents with the total lack of training, a licensing system which is comical and an utter lack of any adequate enforcement.
Chris Renaix
Thalay said his vehicle had been having problems. Really. Continues to drive backwards, no braking, steers perfectly into a checkpoint. You would think he did it on purpose. 28 years and no, absolutely no reaction. Forbid this "man" to ever operate a motorized vehicle for the rest of his life. Luckily the guy waiting kept his helmet on, it will probably saved him his life.

Popular Post richard_smith237
Is the word ‘Tourist’ in the headline while deliberately omitting the word ‘Thai’ an attempt to garner more attention from the easily ‘outraged’ ?????

Eaglekott
If his car had "problems" why drive it until the "problems" is fixed. This reminds me of an accident in my home town many years ago when an a bit elderly lady was going to park her car. She put her automatic car in Reverse in stead of Drive, and when car moved in the "wrong" direction she got panicked and missed the break paddle and put the accelerator, got even more panicked and floored the car through a group of people. She hit a tree and the gear shifter flipped by the impact from Reverse to Drive and she drove through the group again.

Because the car had no problems.... its just the ‘blame something / anything else at all costs’.... some people are simply unable to hold their hand up and I was wrong.... It is unlikely this guy was ever shown how to drive yet got behind the wheel anyway, like many in Thailand. Its quite the surprise there aren’t more similar occurrences... y’know, like people hitting the accelerator instead of the brake and driving off an upper floor of a multi-story carpark which is constructed so poorly they go through the walls like they’re made of paper... [Screenshot - not a vid] https://www.thailandnews.co/2018/10/pickup-truck-plunges-6-stories-from-rooftop-parking-lot-driver-jumps-out-in-time/ https://www.stickboybkk.com/news/two-dead-mall-car-park-plunge/ https://aseannow.com/topic/862372-four-injured-in-car-plunge-from-union-mall’s-carpark-in-bangkok/page/3/ >>> this (below) is just the ‘quick-hits’.... simply put, too many people here can’t drive and should not be permitted near a car until they have received training.
