A Thai hotel waiter, who was among 17 individuals who were in close contact with Thailand’s first case of Omicron variant infection, will need to undergo further tests to determine if he has contracted the coronavirus, and if so, if it is of the Omicron variant, Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha told the media today (Tuesday).

The RT-PCR test of the 44-year-old waiter yesterday turned out to be “inconclusive”. Another RT-PCR test today found him negative of the virus.

Mr. Sathit said that the waiter, had served food to the American businessman, who arrived in Thailand from Spain via Dubai and is Thailand’s first Omicron variant case, but both were wearing face masks during the brief encounter. The waiter subsequently returned to his hometown, in the north-eastern province of Ubon Ratchathani, in the company of some relatives.

How old was that story that you just read?

Is it older than this article?

Just today a post on this forum from a Health Minister says that there are no signs  of domestic transmission of Omicron.

I don’t know how to link, but look at the post, from the eminent Dr who says there is no evidence of domestic transmission.

Lol, so dangerous and deadly they need to test repeatedly for weeks to even know if he's 'ill' ????

Some people have no symptoms, others die...  I'm not sure how cautiously checking to see if someone has a virus in anyway indicates how deadly it is.

He might not even have it, in which case your complaint is completely redundant as it means nothing in terms of how deadly the virus is.

Quite a bizarre comment.

I would hardly call having served food to someone in a quarantine hotel "close contact". Contact, yes, but hardly what I would call "close".
