I love to visit Thailand but I am afraid of ending up hospitalized because I shared space or had a chat with a person that tested covid positive.

At least now they have put it in writing, people know what the rules are. Maybe some of the local insurers will start adding this to their options as well.

 

For people coming 'home' or to see family, it's not that big a deal I think.

But I cannot imagine why a tourist would want to come to Thailand for a couple of weeks vacation, when they risk spending the whole time quarantined in a hotel, despite testing negative, just because they sat next to a stranger on the plane who tested positive. Yes, it's probably a tiny risk, but there are so many other countries they could go to instead, why would you bother?

Anytime someone say's, "The benefits outweigh the risk!", you can guarantee they are not talking for me.  Me.  I'm the only person who weighs the Risk/Benefit ratio and then makes a decision.  And anyone in the right mind should never allow anyone else to make that decision for them.

I don't think the OP is afraid of catching Covid, but afraid of the Thai government rules that would have him locked up for most of his holiday even if asymptomatic or just for being near somebody who tested positive. 

We can all catch Covid anywhere in the world. The debate here is about the (non-medical) consequences which are different in different countries. 

If you go to the Canary Islands for example they don't capture you and put you in a jar until they're satisfied you don't have the plague. You're free to enjoy your long anticipated and hard earned holiday.

Good news nobody had COVID-19.

 

Bad news was I felt ripped off.

 

I think a lot of expats realize your better off avoiding hospitals unless its absolutely necessary in this climate.

If you are planning a visit at the moment you must be prepared for all scenarios and that includes hospitalization.

 

If you only have say, three weeks holiday, then weighing up the small chance that something goes wrong and you could spend 10 days in isolation, then maybe it's not worth the risk either for the potential time lost, or financially for you. 

 

All insurance companies have different policies and clauses which you must read carefully in this day and age of Covid before you take out a policy, so it's no good expecting to find that information on here.

 

Many of the people coming to Thailand at the moment are returnees or people with links or ties to the country. There are not so many fully fledged tourists coming and they won't with the current rules and regulations that are in force here and when they return to their home countries.

 

With your current concerns, you are obviously better off waiting for the situation to improve and a loosening of regulations.

Good to know because just looking at recent videos in youtube, I saw several "tourists", quite different to what you mention.

 

If I visit Thailand, I was going to do it in mid January, but I already saw in the Bangkok Post that the PM or Thai Government is kind of saying that probably after NY, the number of people testing positive for covid is going to increase.

^^^This^^^ is why we have not visited our family or our home there for the past two years

 

So for us it is a BIG deal & we are not willing to toss the dice. It is total BS to lock down someone because of proximity

If that is the case most in Thailand would need locking down NOW because we all know Thailand never tested in 2019 & 2020 & C19 is rampant there.

 

Which is not something that dissuades us from visiting anymore than a cold or flu being rampant everywhere

 

Thailand needs to join other civilized nations in allowing a PCR test being negative BEFORE Flight as the main criteria..PERIOD

 

Anything after that on arrival is total BS & likely a false positive anyway not to mention a golden fleecing if the claim is now oh you sat near someone with Covid...

 

Guess what everyone reading this probably has sat near someone with covid...does not mean you swapped spit with them does it?

 

Yeah their country their rules but knowing the rules we choose not to play their game.

 

Anyway not a problem for us & we wait & watch & someday we will return to our home there for our usual 3 month a year stay

BUT........not under these Russian roulette rules

I doubt it. You wouldn't find out until you and they got the PCR results back, so you wouldn't still be at the airport.

 

There was a situation in Phuket sandbox a while ago. A family group was flying together and one of them tested positive. The whole family was  quarantined, along with another passenger who had been sat near them on the flight.

 

The individual passenger and most of the family tested negative throughout. The family repeatedly asked to leave and go home, but they weren't allowed.

 

The individual passenger was called Stefanie Korényi. You might be able to find more details about it. The story got quite a lot of media coverage at the time.

Thanks, I found out with Google. I thing that Thailand should pay for quarantine when you are tested negative. Anyway I won't go back there as long as I risk to be quarantined.
