Thailand announces new measures for foreign arrivals, New Year countdown details

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has announced a list of provinces where New Year countdown events will be allowed, has set limits on the number of attendees and introduced new measures for foreign arrivals in the light of COVID-19 Omicron variant.

Eight Omicron cases confirmed in Thailand so far, three others await confirmation

Eight COVID-19 Omicron variant cases have been detected in Thailand to date, with three more awaiting confirmatory tests, according to the Medical Sciences Department.

Decision on reopening of Thailand’s Maya Bay on January 1 still not final

Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation is awaiting a final decision, by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, on whether to postpone the reopening of Maya Bay, in the southern coastal province of Krabi, from January 1st.

Three injured as local train struck by explosion in Pattani province

Two State Railway of Thailand workers and a passenger were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED), thought to have been planted by southern insurgents on the rail track, detonated as a local train was approaching Kok Pho district of Pattani province Monday.

Thai PM promises to review Chana project SEA, but says it cannot be scrapped

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Monday that the Chana district industrial estate project, in the southern province of Songkhla, cannot legally be cancelled, but he promised a complete review of the Strategic Environmental assessment (SEA) process.

53-year-old Ms Jarupan Insutha (centre) shows the media how and where her 32-year-old daughter was killed by her ex-husband on Sunday evening last. 35-year-old Mr Phrompong Srikaew has already confessed to the murder after surrendering himself to police shortly after killing his estranged wife.

 

35-year-old husband went to the family home of his ex-wife to either make up with her or commit murder. When 32-year-old Jarupan Insutha again insisted that she had abandoned their long-standing marriage, he chose the latter before calmly driving away from the scene on his motorbike.

Cabinet suspends controversial Chana industrial project, protesters see move as ‘buying time’

The Thai cabinet decided today (Tuesday) to suspend the implementation of the controversial industrial estate project in Chana district of the southern province of Songkhla, pending a new Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the project to be undertaken by an ad hoc committee chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
