A pilot and his trainee were killed when a helicopter, on a routine training flight from an airfield in Nakhon Sawan province, crashed this morning (Tuesday).

 

A witness said that, at about 9.30am, he saw smoke billowing from the chopper as it was airborne. It then crashed to the ground at an airfield next to a post office, in front of the Chiraprawat army camp.

 

Aircraft safety inspectors, from the army aviation training centre in Lop Buri province, were rushed to the crash site to investigate. The vicinity was cordoned off to preserve evidence.

Obviously not one of the two choppers that carried the good general and his cronis between Udon Thani and Kham Chanot, last week, so as do his merits and rub the trees to get his lottery numbers.

Having been in a helicopter in which the gearbox seized and caught fire, autorotaion is NOT an option, thankfully all 20 of us walked away

I went on a helicopter ride around age 12.

 

As an adult I wouldn't.

 

As the industry says, when the engine fails, a plane glides down, a helicopter is nothing more than a brick.

Yes, the video shows it dropping like a stone. Does a pilot have to know how to make such an emergency landing?

It was an army helicopter,  not the airforce.
