TISI promises to improve the quality of face masks

The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) has promised to step up measures to improve the quality of face masks on the market after 41 different mask companies failed standards tests.

 

The TISI said face masks will be designated controlled products next year, with producers required to qualify for a Thai Industrial Standard (TIS) stamp. The new regulations are being proposed to the Council of State and should be approved by mid-2022.

 

The announcement came after the Consumer Organization Council and the Academic Network for Consumer Protection conducted a Facebook Live test of face-mask brands on November 30th. They discovered that 41 brands were not up to standard, despite four of them having already been approved by the TISI. They are currently undergoing retesting to verify their quality.

 

TISI Secretary-General Banjong Sukreetha said warnings have been sent to face mask manufacturers who fail to meet the necessary standards. He also advised consumers to only purchase face masks from companies that have been issued the TIS stamp to ensure they provide quality protection.

So...…if a manufacturer simply stamps their masks with 'TIS' they can charge more for them?

So I guess that stamp isn't such a guarantee of quality after all...
