Hospitals throughout Thailand have been told to prepare for a surge in cases due to close contact and extensive travel over the new year period, a senior doctor told Thai Enquirer on Wednesday.

New Year clusters have already been reported by the Ministry of Public Health with popular entertainment areas responsible. These include areas in the capital like Khaosan Road and in provinces like Chonburi and Phuket.

But according to a senior doctor, the government is warning that clusters will likely be found in all provinces due to the new year’s celebrations.

Just a thought, but if they let people with mild or no symptoms self isolate at home then that would take massive pressure off the hospitals.

Or is that too logical?

They have already said they will be doing that.

Forgotten the timescales involved. Anyone suggest when the number of people who became infected during the holidays will 'max out'?

January 17 will be the max hospitalization date.

That is what has been said. However it will be solely up to the people to follow protocol and Laws.

This is Thailand , and the expression " herding Cats " springs to mind, and with the rapid transmission of Omicron there will be a Train Wreck.

SAME SAME news, same warning in few other countries, even if there is no rise in infections.

amazing how this global central news room is working and spreading the same news all over the planet in the same time.

So you don’t think that people holding parties and socialising a lot more over the Christmas and New Year period will lead to an increase in transmission of a highly transmissible virus ?????

People wanted to celebrate the festive year and restaurants wanted to make some money... I hope they save it wisely, when Omicron reaches every street they may wish they thought and acted differently.

When they've finished passing it on to everyone else one would assume.

And not one Influenza case around the world found so far...

You are clearly misinformed. The flu is returning this year.

If you think that Covid-19 is being misdiagnosed as influenza, you have been fed misinformation.

Just a few days ago he was partying in Pattaya bars.

I don't feel sorry for the stupidity of some people.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any co-ordination between the various entities within the healthcare system of Thailand. Does the Medical Services Department, (quoted in the Thai PBS article), talk to the MoPH or the CCSA? Which branch of this system issues the rules/regulations/guidelines?

Just have the asymptomatic self-isolate at home, hospitals can cope with those actually sick.

I hope we're getting there, but the various branches "haven't got the memo yet". So it will be the "play it by ear" for a while, until someone is forced to make a "decision" on the subject; presumably either Anutin or Prayut, once the surge in cases becomes clearer. It would of course make sense to plan that now, but hey, when was that ever likely, (and there are cash cow considerations being hammered into the calculators as I write).
