Alongkorn Polabutr, chief advisor to the agriculture and cooperatives minister, said the first lot of rice export to China on 20 train carriages on the railway amounted to 1,000 tons and was delivered to Chongqing in western China. It was a new and historic chapter for cargo transport on trains which expanded opportunities for trade and income for farmers, business operators and the country, he said. The newsworthiness of the article, I believe, is that whereas rice was hitherto transported to China by sea, this is the first time that transport was by rail. Please feel free to start a separate topic about Thailand's trade balance with China. Edited January 20, 2022 by Puccini 4 2 1

Popular Post StayinThailand2much
Weren't Thai farmers just complaining about this railway and the resulting imports from China? Well, I'm sure some of them will benefit. Then again, if Thailand does, so will China ten-fold...

Eric Loh
The inland train network will bring tremendous benefits in terms of shorter and reliable mode of transport than shipping and will unlock the opportunities for more trade for the hinterlands. Doubt it will change those minds that are conditioned to China bashing. 1 1 2
