Daily News caption: 500 tons of pork seized

Thailand's livestock authorities continued urgent investigations after reports that unscrupulous companies were hoarding pork in the hope of making vast profits due to a sky-rocketing price.

Former PM and fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra had claimed this was going on in Thailand in an online message.

Two refrigeration storage facilities in Samut Sakhon, south west of the Thai capital Bangkok, were checked.

At one there was 929 tons of meat being stored.

Meat belonging to two companies amounting to 512 tons was seized by the Livestock Office working with Consumer Protection Division police.

The documentation of the meat was not in order; specifically there were no documents pertaining to its onward movement.

This could indicate that it was being stored illegally.

One batch was registered for storage from September to November.

One part of the stock was actually listed as chicken when it was in fact pork, reported Daily News yesterday.

The companies were not named.

Price gouging when so many are hurting for money due to unemployment/covid.  Throw the book at them and give those responsible jail time.

The strictures of Thailand's defamation laws are very, very frustrating.

It is shameful that these greedy ### are doing this to an already struggling population

So evil Thaksin might be telling the truth....price gouging the moment you look for it....not where were the authorities before Thaksin stepped in?

What's going to happen to the 500 tons or is it metric Tonnes of pork.

This is Serious , are the Livestock Authorities Dividing this up amongst each other or does the Pork get past on to the shops or people who Need it or sold on auction.

It will be metric tonnes, nobody uses short ton outside of the US now unless you are on an offshore installation.

He seems to know more about what's happening inside Thailand from abroad, than the resident Thai Government ????????????????

My father-in-law loves watching his Thai boxing on a certain channel owned by a certain conglomerate, continuing to blast its viewers with ads for its fresh, delicious pork, despite the obvious shortage. Hmm.
