Thailand’s corruption standing fell six places, ranked 110th, in the 2021 Corruption Perception Index, with a score of 35 out of 100, according to survey of 180 countries conducted and released today (Tuesday) by Transparency International, a global civil society organization leading the fight against corruption.

The Country is corrupt from top to bottom, and always will be...

I would also add, side to side & inside out... just to cover all angles.????

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck......

Many people here are complaining about corruption until the moment they can use it to get they extension of stay. They know very well: using an agent smells in case they don't reach the Immi conditions..... but that is OK for them .... but later COMPLAING.....

Yes indeed, I had a feeling something was up with that score - it should be a lot higher (worse)

The scale of corruption here is shocking with laws and a constitution written to hide it, anyone that doesn't see it is a fool

A country governed by the army with no police force?  Of course it's corrupt.

I don't see the problem...Thailand can sue Transparency International for defamation????

C’mon Thailand .

Strive to be the most corrupt country.

You can do it .

OH the beloved PM is speaking to the Saudis about how to achieve that

Total BS:
I just paid TB 1.1 Mio in corruption, donations etc. ...... That was more than I paid in all my life and all the many countries I lived - together!

Unbelievable.

The uk should be almost black, right down the bottom of the list.

Then all that shows is your breathtaking misunderstanding

By definition you cannot finitely measure corruption (think about it),but the metrics used are perfectly valid ,it isn’t someone just putting 2 wet fingers in the air.

is this article actually implying that there are countries which are more corrupt than thailand?

Yes, almost all the African countries.

Thailand has plenty of scope for improvement with a rating like that !

I noticed this in the Indy today, which I hadn't seen before. Good luck to the PM in sorting this out :-

"Thailand s prime minister arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for the first high-level meeting since relations between the nations soured three decades ago over a sensational jewelry heist that led to a diplomatic row and string of mysterious killings. The official visit by Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha to Riyadh signals the nations are seeking to thaw relations, long chilled by the 1989 scandal. Saudi Arabia downgraded its diplomatic ties with Thailand over the theft that became known as the Blue Diamond affair.

A 50-carat blue diamond was among an estimated $20 million worth of gems and jewelry stolen by a Thai janitor from a Saudi prince’s palace in the heist that wrecked relations between the countries. The kingdom stopped issuing and renewing visas for hundreds of thousands of Thai workers, suspended permits for thousands of Thai Muslims hoping to make the annual hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and warned its citizens not to travel to Thailand. Three Saudi diplomats seeking the valuables’ return were shot dead in Bangkok. A Bangkok-based Saudi businessman believed to have been hunting for the missing jewels also disappeared, and was presumed killed. No one was convicted for the killings."

Also, I remember that the wife of a high-ranking police officer blatantly wore some of the stolen jewelry (I think the blue diamond) at an event, and when some of the items were returned to Saudi they were found to be fake replicas.

Ahhhhh thats ok then, if it was about corruption and not corruption perception maybe Thailand would be around the 170 score ????????

The idea of corruption is in itself a perception and quite often nothing more than xenophobia.

In the west it gets disguised as fraud and viewed as more acceptable.

Don't give up on Thailand!

Hard to run corruption schemes when your economy is in shambles and no tourists.

Give Thailand some time to recover from Covid, and I'm sure everyone will be quickly back to putting their hands in each other's pockets once more!

It's really odd that people should think the country is highly corrupt when it's ruled by such a paragon of virtue, happily dancing on the beach in his favourite dollar-emblazoned shirt... whatever could make them think the country might be dishonest, lol?

You have obviously never been to Africa!!!

Nigeria for instance.....

The generalissimos have needs too. While some are corrupt, others are more lucky and get 22 luxury watches from a friend. Latter most likely deceased over the joy of giving - there you go! Others take flour all the way to Sydney and are reprimanded for that; some nasty judge could not distinguish between flour and illicit powers. How unfortunate for all those honest, hard working, servants to the people who "elected" them.

Amazing how your standing can improve when you send a big enough brown envelope to the right person!
