J Hotel in Pattaya is 9800 baht for collection at Suvarnabhumi, tests on day 1 and 5 and room on day 1 and 5, that's ok if you ask me.

Not when you consider that I've booked a 50sqm room just off of Sukhumvit in central Bangkok in a SHA+ hotel, with kitchen, sofa, dining area and fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor, for just over 1000 baht a night. But then, as I'm not arriving from overseas I don't need to be escorted like a prisoner to my hotel (do they still do that, or has it been dropped?) and I don't need to take any tests despite me being triple-vaccinated. Visitors to the country are being gouged. Welcome sir, special (high) price for you tonight.

Which website can you book these packages from. Thanks

Sure Thailand will be gutted you're not coming.

Perhaps, but they might care about the thousands of others than may decide against visiting LOS.

it's their country and we have to abide by their bureaucractic decisions.

You don't if you don't come. Many have got that message, it seems. Plenty of alternatives, something that still hasn't got through the thick skulls of the Thai authorities. Or maybe they just don't care. Since when has Thailand ever cared about what foreigners think? If they think of Thailand at all, that is. Just a South-East Asian backwater with no influence on anything anywhere outside of its borders.

CH Hotel, 3 Star in CM is 4,950 a night for T & G.

Do they qualify for test & go?

I can only find 5k+ for very basic hotels and twice that for decent ones.

it appears day 1 & day 5 has to be booked seperatly?

I paid 9,000 in a modest hotel for a couple, for the 1st nite. I would describe it as financial rape.

I don't know why Covid tests can't be made cheaper in Thailand? Is the big pharma companies earning a lot on these tests?

I don't think most tourists will come to spend 10,000 baht for the two covid tests and quarantine hotel just to spend one or two weeks in Thailand like a normal tourists would do because they have real jobs back home.

They don't want 40 million tourists again, they want people who have more spending power and don't care about 10K thb.

This hotel was going for < 1000 a night.

With test & go its 5k.

Mind you, CM hotels can only be used for 5th day as there are no direct international flights to CM and hence no airport transfer required.

So its a night's stay,

PCR test (2k @ lanna) and

at best 2 meals for 100baht a piece...

so the room rate went from 1000 a night to 2800 a night in T & G!

or am i missing something here?

What they want and what they get will be completely different. People with spending power are not interested in a third world backwater. Lots of competition around the world for the high spenders and Thailand does not even remotely offer the services that they demand.

Thailands only chance of regaining even a moderate amount of tourism in the coming years is from the same demographic that has always been attracted to their country.

Millionaires are more careful on how they spend their money.

Else, they cant continue to be millionaires.

They will spend higher amounts, if they see value in such expenditure. most that i have heard of dont throw money away.

Why would they want to pay 2000-5000 baht for a PCR test, knowing most countries offer the same for less than 500baht or some even for free.

on top of that, 2-3 X room rates.

That too a double dip!

Good Luck to TAT's tourists  arrival estimates for the month.

yes, those of us who are living here, may utilize T & G  2.0.

Tourists should be desperate to walk through this booby trap

I'm sorry but i don't know how to decipher this mess, what on earth do you mean? who's Jack?

"I'm all right, Jack" is a 1959 film starring Peter Sellers, about corruption and ineptness in British industry. The expression is used to describe smug and selfish complacency.

"Millionaires are more careful on how they spend their money. Else, they cant continue to be millionaires."

Only if they don't make any money anymore or never made it by themselves.

"most that i have heard of dont throw money away."

Most of the ones i know, spend a lot.

I know quite a few who love it here.

That could be those "not coming to Thailand" foreigners who own all the 30,40,50 million+ condos in Bangkok and Pattaya.

Could be, the bar stoolers never meet them.

They live here or come a couple of times a year and i know them well.

Correct. But some here want to believe Thailand is just for low lifes who can't afford to go or stay elsewhere. Typical bar stool perspective.

not to throw it all away for almost nil value

That's how you turn a "pandemic" into a highly profitable money-making operation by ripping off potential tourists in the name of "safety."
This never ends because it creates too much money for a subset of the politically connected, even though it's destroyed the actual tourism industry.

Wealthy well-heeled tourist paying upscale prices for accommodations and tests is the only model Thailand now wants.  The lower and middle class Thais who benefited from pre-2019 tourism will never recover - they're not meant to recover.  The new normal model is Wealthy Supporting The Wealthy.  **** everyone else.

However, this short-sight approach guarantees that the Thai tourism industry never recovers and in the process they lose their market share of tourism to other countries.

It might be gutted when it finds out just how many potential tourists feel exactly the same way.

Which portal can you find 9800?

There are 3 "J" offerings.  The J Inspired Hotel, The Hotel J Residence and The Hotel J Pattaya all on the same site I believe.  I think the poster you quoted would have been looking at the first one:

On this site:

As you can see it includes airport transfer.

Nurse on site 24/7.  Doctor on call 24/7.  Extra security 24/7.  PPE for all staff dealing with Test and Go guests.  Cost of qualification as SHA Plus+.  Loss of other room availability as a complete floor is dedicated to Test and Go.  Computer link to Mor Phrom database to enter test results.  Just a few thoughts.

We don't know the true cost to the hotels, and yes, they will be sticking a bit on if they think they'll get away with it but to say that 2,800 baht is the new 1,000 baht is ignoring a lot of other costs they must have.

The prices is crazy.I went back to my country in europe for a cheaper price. And here its free.

I'm scared to even try in the first 48 hours! I'm waiting on some hopefully good reports. I'm really curious if turnaround times are going to be one day to two plus weeks like T&G 1. That was ridiculous.

I have my "agent" working on it today.  We'll see how it goes.  So far only come back to ask for emergency contact in Thailand.

Around the xmas and start of omicron I had to get a test atk to fly into ireland from spain local doc was doing it for €20 a pop, queue outside it was the cheapest.

he put the swab in your mouth with one hand & the other a neg result with a smile

he was talking in €500-€1000 an hour at a guess.

So testing was a scam everywhere not just thailand but the test quarrantine and go x 2 with few travelling so charge more TIT, losers are airlines and customers who wont forget, the only way is a further downgrading as a holiday destination continues.

The TP documention, paying upfront, inconvience and hassle of a typical €1000/1500 flight and accommodation is now T&G x2 with insurance is at least €1500/2000.

Unfortunitly those who have to go back will be used a face saving stat.

The worst of it is that you're effectively paying through the nose for your own holding cell so that they can whisk you away immediately into quarantine if you test positive. Not only will your holiday be ruined, but you'll end up short of whatever they decide to charge you for your stay in quarantine. If you've got family, business or property here, it may be worth the risk, but not for a holiday IMHO.

3 to 7 days is mentioned during the application as they confirm with the hotel (hotel should respond within 24 hours) and DDC will verify your vaccination certificate before pass is issued.

Nothing or merit here at all.

Doubt it, it seems not to have bothered them one bit in the past 2 years.
