BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand plans to host its first international air show in 2027 as part of its strategy to showcase itself as an aviation hub for ASEAN nations.

The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), the Policy Committee on the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), and Pattaya City have announced plans to host the first-ever Thailand International Air Show. The event, which will be held in 2027 at U-Tapao International Airport in Rayong province, is expected to help boost Thailand’s aviation industry to 1.2 trillion baht.

According to the announcement, the upcoming Air Show will be chaired by TCEB President Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya. He emphasized the importance of holding events to boost the country’s reputation and promote Thailand as a world-leading manufacturer and exporter of aerospace components.

Chokchai Panyayong, an infrastructure development specialist on the EEC Policy Committee, said the event corresponds with U-Tapao Airport’s development policy and the EEC’s Eastern Aviation City. He noted that the government’s current aim is to encourage investment, innovation, and the development of more advanced technology for the country.

Meanwhile, Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem said the event will align with the city’s strategy to become a Smart City and hub for transportation, economic development and investment in the Eastern region. He also said Pattaya City is proud to be Thailand’s representative for hosting such an event, which should boost the city’s and country’s reputation and economic growth.

More details of the event will be unveiled in 2023.

The opening fanfare could be a low flying F-35 squadron with rainbow colored strips following.

2027 isn't to-morrow and nobody can predict when another pandemic will hit

For a country that its air force still fly F-15 and F-5 as the front line defense ( just as well Thailand doesn't have enemies) i would be a bit reserved in hosting an air show and save the embarrassment...

At least they'd have something to do... not as if they are fighting any wars

The Royal Thai Air Force do not operate the F-15.

They do have several squadrons operating the F-16

Tri-colors yes, anything "Rainbow coloured" is still on hold apparently, needs cabinet clearance.

I guess we know where Anutin's pigs will be in 2027.

Hmm.

U-Tapao International Airport is owned by the Royal Thai Navy.

Some nice big fat military budgets up for grabs?

Another day, another hub....

(Is anyone keeping a record?)

Only if those POSs will be delivered by then, and not grounded once here ... ????

A bit of forward planning 2027, although ... next pandemic may have something to say about it ... ????

Negativity aside, would be a nice event to attend, hopefully not rainy or smog season, for us photo bugs.

I'm impressed that the organizer is confident he will still have the job in 5 years time

Thailand current 'combat' fleet.

Lived near RTAF Wing 23, and quite enjoyed the touch & go training, that circled the house there.   Though lived far enough away not to be annoyed, as one friend lived much closer, and they drove him crazy.  Actually had to be careful flying my drones, as some were quite low flying, invading my 'legal' airspace, though rare.  Not that I always stayed at the legal ceiling myself.

Live near RTAF Wing 5 now, and enjoy their training planes, touch & go, almost on a daily basis.

I sold electrical interconnect products for 32 years now retired Southwest US/Mexico last 15 in the APAC region Commercial Aerospace Mfgrs/MRO Mil Aero market and its an exciting field. Unless it’s a focus on specific territories target customers ... the largest and most attended is Singapore Airshow and tough to beat...

I could easily be pulled out of retirement if looking for an accelerated age knowledgeable getting older.. loves aerospace.. ready to go at a moments notice..
