webfact
Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported on the developments in a case of abduction and sexual molestation of a nine year old boy in Surat Thani, southern Thailand. They had a picture of 39 year old Chainat "Lek" Huangjing from Trang being taken on a reenactment by Bang Sawan police and heavily armed commandos. The arrested paedophile was in a helmet, face mask and wearing flip-flops and a flak jacket. The case stemmed from Monday when a woman called Siri-amporn went to the police to say that her nine year old son had been taken away by Chainat on a motorcycle. Chainat had been staying with the family and was known to the boy. Investigatiors discovered that the boy was taken to several locations including a road bridge along route 41 in Wiang Sa district then to Trang where the suspect stayed with relatives. The boy was found there and taken into protective care. The suspect had dumped the motorcycle at a mechanic's then changed to a motorcycle taxi with the victim. He has been charged with abducting and molesting a minor under 13 and has reportedly admitted to sexually abusing two boys aged 6 and 9 on at least ten occasions. Popular Post sanuk711
Is that the 9 year old boy in the picture---or the 39 year old man---- Really dont see the point of these reenactments--- If the person has admitted to the crime given details and signed a statement --admitting it. Why go and point to a spot in a field where it took place.,
G Rex
I think that these re-enactments are to show the public that the Boys In Brown actually do something.. 1

The theory is that the re-enactment removes doubt. I stress the word in theory. A friend of mine was murdered many years ago. The first re-enactment showed that the person (heavily in debt) was not at the crime scene. The second re-enactment was with the true murderer. GroveHillWanderer
As per the National Police Office, re-enactments should not be done routinely, in the way they seem to be. Quote According to the NPO, the suspects should be taken to the crime scene only when their presence is likely to provide additional information – such as to pinpoint where ill-gotten assets have been hidden. Crime re-enactments: a violation of suspects' rights?
mvdf
How exactly do they envisage reenacting the molestation or sexual abuse element of the crime? On an adult? A doll? This is disturbing.

2long
Nice for the report to point out he was wearing a mask and flip flops. Helmet and bullet-proof vest, I understand. If there's a need to mention his mask and flip flops, why not discuss his t-shirt, shorts and maybe even his underwear!

it is what it is
4 minutes ago, hotchilli said: Is this really necessary? Common sense says that in most cases such re-enactments provide little benefit. however this may be a legally required stage in the investigation process in thailand, or is something that has culturally evolved. it would be interesting to know why these enactments take place if anyone here knows? I always assumed that 'heavily armed' meant those described carried howitzers on their backs. What constitutes 'heavily armed' in reality and in journalistic reporting?
