« An Embassy is the siege of a diplomatic mission of a particular country based in another country's capital». The establishment of an embassy is the proof of the will to talk, cooperate and build a solid relationship between those 2 countries.

It is most certainly the case for the French embassy in Thailand, established many centuries ago, on the banks of the Chao Praya river.

 

But, in the opinion of the French Ambassador to Thailand, M. Thierry Mathou, the embassy and the walls around should also be the symbol of the friendship between France and Thailand.

According to him, the outside walls of the embassy should not be a barrier between our 2 countries. It should be a display that bear the symbols of the long-lasting and friendly relation between our two countries.

The result is an original work composed of several paintings exhibited on the walls of the French Embassy in Bangkok, to illustrate the richness of the dialogue between France and Thailand.

 

Started in September 2021, the project came to completion in February 2022. The teams of "Restaurateurs sans Frontières" under Mr. Robert Bougrain's direction and in collaboration with students from Poh Chang Academy of Arts, created an original artwork composed of several paintings displayed on the Embassy's external walls to illustrate the richness of the dialogue between France and Thailand.

The audio description of the paintings was made by students from the French International School of Bangkok (Lycée Français International de Bangkok: LFIB). It can be read and listened to by scanning the QR code next to each painting.

This project received help and support from many stakeholders, especially from some of the most important French companies operating in Thailand, such as Saint-Gobain or Dextra, which brought their French expertise to realize the project.

Are you saying that the paintings and frames are not waterproofed?

The French embassy is the most active and interesting of all the embassies when it comes to cultural programs and meaningful education projects. I've been to many of them over the years. Meanwhile, my own country's embassy does just about nothing. Hasn't even had an ambassador here in over a year.
