BANGKOK, Feb 18 (TNA) – Police of the Counter Corruption Division searched Wat Thurian in Nakhon Nayok province as they suspected its abbot together with a former director of the National Office of Buddhism of stealing about 100 million baht from the office’s fund for the improvement of 12 Buddhist temples in Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri from 2011 to 2016.

The abbot, Phra Sitthiworanayok aka Chao Khun Jack, denied the suspected theft. However, police insisted they had evidence and witnesses to prove that he and Nopparat Benjawatananun, former director of the National Office of Buddhism, spent 18 million baht from the stolen money on buying a land plot cover about 10 rai in Nakhon Nayok and many other assets. They had their family members register as the owners of the assets and were thus also suspected of laundering money.

There is Buddhism, and there is Thai Buddhism, and the only similarity between them is the colour of their robes.

In most cases yes.

Here it seems common that it's all about money, acting, and superstition.

But, there are real Buddhist monks here....just they appear to be very much in the minority.

The entire Buddhist culture in Thailand is about self, centred around making merit to benefit number 1, me me me.

I have seen many Thai Monks, in Thailand and in Canada, who are good

people. It is a shame when these fake monks, are caught doing their mafia

style thefts from the Temples where they live at.  My Thai relative who is

also a long time monk, has said that he does not hesitate to get rid of

any one at his temple who break the rules and the law.
