Ajarn.com discussion board latest

As a lot of you will have noticed, the ajarn.com discussion board is off-line at present. The reason being that our web-hosts (yet again) are rather peeved with the amount of bandwidth being used. This is what happens when your board gets lots of traffic. At least it's what seems to happen to us. We are however working on a solution at the moment, and will shortly re-launch the board at ajarnforum.com (probably) Thanks for your patience and understanding.

The thaivisa.com and ajarn.com are both worthy websites. It is true they serve different markets. However we need both scales of the market. Agreed..?

I clear 3 figures and you...

Everybody his own business Geo, but ajarn.com is simply pathetic. I logged in two weeks ago and the backpackers there were discussing whether a teacher could chew chewing gum in class or not. It's that kind of level...

Cheers

Dutchy

I am earning a measly 30k a month and hate my job, though I am shortly moving on. However, I do agree with Dutchy's comments as the last time I logged on to ajarn.com was a couple of weeks ago and I noticed that among the topics posted were...

WHAT CAME FIRST - THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG?

SHREK 2 - WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT?

Not only that but with members using nicks like 'Ijustwannateach', I didn't really feel that that sort of pretention was my scene, despite doing the job that they all do, earning less than many of them and no doubt being in roughly the same age group.

Many of the posts were from people who still hadn't shaken off their student mentality and were all trying to morally out-do each other and using the anonymity of the forum to be who they thought they wanted to be.

That said, Bangkok Phil who appears to be the main moderator does have one of the best websites on Bangkok I have ever seen.

www.bangkokmouth.com

Did I hear someone mention the 'WHAT CAME FIRST - THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG?

' thread on Ajarn?. In response, I felt that I just had to re-register on this board & own up to the fact. :o

I have been at a loose end the last couple of days ... given that someone pulled the Ajarn 'pants' down & they've gone offline. :D So I think I'll make myself at home here on this board again (after a two year or so break from you all) ... icon12.gif I'm ready to play with the 'big boys'. Is Dr Pat Pong still kicking around this site? He has been of assistance to me in the past :D

Ok TTFN ... off to find that thread discussing the options for leaving my big fat farang wife for a young pre-op katoey? icon5.gif

I'm still here Harry. Welcome back.

"Ok TTFN ... off to find that thread discussing the options for leaving my big fat farang wife for a young pre-op katoey?"

He would have had the operation by now. But we don't discuss things like that these days...

george where did you read that?

kindly asked you for the link yesterday, doing so again today if its not a problem!

maybe you can tell me tomorrow.. :o

You might have to refresh the Ajarn front page in your browser with CTRL-F5

The new message there now reads:

Ajarn.com discussion board latest

We are expecting the ajarn.com discussion board to be back on-line by the weekend (3rd July) at the latest. We have had to move the forum to a new server with a new URL and both are currently being set up. The problems have been from us using excess bandwidth and NOT because of recent security infringements.

From Bangkok Phil (ajarn.com)

Thanks a million George for keeping your readers up to date on the state of affairs at ajarn.com. You're a gentleman sir! I'm sure that there are many people that enjoy both our forums (Do I need two girlfriends and can I chew gum in class while I'm at it? - you get the picture)

The temporary demise of the board has absolutely nothing to do with the recent security infringements (hacks) but because our hosts got pissed off with the amount of bandwidth we were using (something that seems to rear its ugly head every year or so regardless of which host we use).

We are already in the process of moving the board to a new host under the URL www.ajarnforum.com. It should be up and running by Saturday at the latest. Marko the tekky man is currently working with Ikonboard to try and save the content of the old board. The hosts told us that we had 72 hours to move the board or they would just delete it. Nice people eh? So whether the old board and its 3000 members and its gazillion posts gets saved I really can't say - but we are doing our best.

Oh, and as people have already said - it's always open season on English teachers in Thailand. But those who do the most anonymous finger pointing are usually those with the biggest personal problems. Nature of the internet eh?

And Snapshot - the cheque's in the post!

Phil

Hello Dirty Dog.

You wanna be careful mate. You've already been kicked off this board once. I heard that sickbucket.com is the only one that'll have you these days.

Hurry up please Phil I've only got two finger nails left and my toes are a bit too far away from my mouth (and smelly!).

For god's sake Phil ... listen to the man & get things moving a bit quicker ... if only for the sake of KK's feet icon8.gif

The good news is that we should be up and running within 48 hours. The bad news is that we've lost all the information. Such is life I guess.

But Phil .. I spent three or four months accruing 850+ Ajarn posts & was on my way to becoming an Ajarn legend, you ask just Marko, what with me Chicken & Egg threads an all... please oh please don't tell me that I've gotta start from zero again :D ?

I don't mind losing the threads so much but can we do a deal on the post count & me 'Secret Agent' status on the new site? Go on Phil ... make my day :o

Look I'm pleading with ya Phil. hail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gif

It's time for teacher-bashing again...

It is always that time :o

Bad Parents and Bad Teachers, can play havoc with young minds......

They are VERY important people......

Ah ######, we can always start over. However, a big round of applause for the owners/adminds/mods of thaivisa.com for being so open minded when a local website needed help.

Very outstanding gentlemen and ladies! Thank you...

Geo .. confused ... what exactly have they done to help out us poor Ajarn relations?

  • Author

They could have complained, refused to reply, etc. Instead they being thaivisa.com tried to contribute in an helpful way. Once again, my hat is off...

Ken, I say it again: You should do something about your message board addiction. Or maybe get a less boring job.

For the lost posts, isn't that the third time while I am posting there?

Isn't there a way they could save the posts or the number of times every user has posted???

Certainly evens the playing field making everyone start again from 0.

Isn't there a way they could save the posts and the number of times everyuser has posted???

Backups not taken perhaps?

I thought Marko made regular backups of the board...his conversations with Phil in the mods room would certainly suggest so...is it an inherent dificulty of Ikonboard to accept host changes without losing all the content and stats? Ah well, lets all occupy Thaivisa whilst it all sorted...

Yeah, corrupt files and all that.

Seems a shame that after all the effort people have made posting on that board that they will now have to start again from 0.

Ah, well. Equality restored.

:o:D:D:D:D

We had the back up but Lunar Pages were not willing to help us transfer the files.

Most of these webhosts are complete w***ers. I've now formed that opinion.

It's never the end of the world to start again. How many times did you ever look at page 2 of any forum? As the great Tommy Docherty used to say "today's news, tomorrow's fish and chips"

I appreciate playing with the Big Boys, but I prefer the normal people. Regardless, the ajarn.com forum is currently not available. Wonder why...?

no offense, but ajarn.com caters for the bottom of the barrel. These are not normal people, normal people do not work for that kind of money.

So...exactly how much do normal farangs make in Thailand?

Is there such a thing as a normal farang?

Please do tell what normal and enriching profession you have.
