Tens of thousands of Russians are being sent to eastern Ukraine as part of an offensive planned after 15 February, according to the Ukrainian governor of Luhansk region.

"We are seeing more and more reserves being deployed in our direction," said Serhiy Haidai, who expected a three-pronged Russian advance.

Ukraine has warned repeatedly of an imminent offensive.

But there is widespread scepticism of significant Russian success.

The UK's defence intelligence briefing said Russia's aim was almost certainly to capture parts of Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region that were not already under occupation.

IMO they don't need to do much other than "capture parts of Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region that were not already under occupation" dig in, fortify, and wait for American and European societies to stop their governments spending all the money on Ukraine. IMO once the arms and ammunition supply end it's game over for Ukraine.

If the Russian economy can survive in spite of being denied Western technology, in spite of the brain drain exasperating a demographic crisis already in progress before the war, and in spite of the hardships to the remaining Russian people caused by putting the economy on a war footing and denying people consumer goods and necessities they have become accustomed to, you may be correct.

 

Of course that is assuming a lot.

 

Edit:  I forgot to mention; the more the world moves away from fossil fuel dependence towards more sustainable sources of energy the worse things get for Russia's economy.  Putin could have used his years in power to make Russia less dependent on oil, gas and coal, but he found it much easier to manage a kleptocratic petrostate.

I wish the Ukrainians had equal fire power to the Russians they would have the invaders out rite quick I believe in democracy and the right to self determination heck if the majority want something else I support that obviously the Ukrainians see the Russians as invaders and want them out obviously if the 2 forces were on equal footing the Russians would be back home allready slava Ukraine ????????

So what will the West do?Capitulate to Russia?

The West is sending more and more arms to beat the ruskies,why would they stop now?

Last weekend was the worst weekend for Russia qua losses,over 1000

soldiers killed.

How much longer will they be able to keep that up?

Sending a few hundred thousand soldiers without training and ill equiped

will not change the war for them.

Bodies will keep piling up until the citizens of Russia wake up.

These people really live in an alternative universe. The Russian army/air force have been bombing cities in Syria to rubble for years, killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians. So why would any Syrian be fighting on Russia’s side?

Looks like they are dipping into the gold reserves because of sanctions. special operations are expensive it seems.
