Ukraine confident UK will send Challenger 2 tanks to help war effort

Ukraine is confident Britain will announce it plans to send about 10 Challenger 2 tanks to Kyiv shortly, a move it hopes will help Germany finally allow its Leopard 2s to be re-exported to the embattled country.

A formal announcement is anticipated on Monday but Ukrainian sources indicated they understood that Britain had already decided in favour, as pressure mounts on Berlin ahead of a meeting of western defence ministers next Friday.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Britain was considering supplying Ukraine with the tanks, following months of requests from Kyiv – with a final decision in the hands of the prime minister, Rishi Sunak.

Hope fully soon a few countries will be sending Leopard 2 tanks.

It could make a difference really fast.

Germany is no longer against the idea of sending and the same

goes for the Netherlands,Poland and Finland.

if i am correct.

The countries just need permission to send them from the country of origin, which is Germany.

Just waiting on the new German war minister...

Looking at all the war crimes Russia is committing in Ukraine, this is arguably one of the more heinous ones:

That’s 2,000 kids abducted in just over 10 days. Makes you wonder how many they took last year. Must be in the tens of thousands. Russia really is a terrorist state and needs to be treated and isolated as such.

the estimated figure of Ukrainian minors abducted by Ruzzia since the 2022  invasion is close to 300.000

Sorry, I was being sarcastic.

Meanwhile, will the tanks be too little, too late?

I read yesterday that Ukraine gets through six months' production of US ammunition in one month, and for Ukraine to actually take back its territory to 2014 borders, the West would have to seriously ratchet up both arms production and supply to war footing levels.

A  commitment not seen yet.

Unfortunately these tanks are too little too late ..... Now is a critical turning point in this war imo,  Putin is planning to draft as many as 2,000,000 reservists in the coming days to send to the front line.

The West will have provided all it has so far for nothing unless the act seriously and get Ukraine hundreds of tanks and heavy military hardware.

Very grave situation at this time .....     what is the West & EU thinking ??   numpties !

I'll just add that I had thought it was Putin saber rattling to deflect attention away from any problems he may have been having, so I'm a bit surprised he went through with it.

The biggest danger IMO is that the west may actually get involved in the fighting, and if that happens covid would be the least of our problems, IMO.

And here I thought I was going to die of old age?

pretty much the same thing they did in WWII with Adolph..... there is no such thing as neutral, it's impossible to achieve but them blocking delivery to Ukraine and allowing it to Qatar has to do with $$$$$$ and Switzerland is well know for "helping" people of holding  "big"  $$$$$$$$$

Deaths from strike on Ukraine apartment tower rise to 23

DNIPRO, Ukraine (AP) — The death toll from a Russian missile strike on an apartment building in the southeastern city of Dnipro rose to 23 Sunday, the local government reported as rescue workers scrambled to pull survivors from the rubble.

Emergency crews worked through the frigid night at the multi-story residential building, the site of the worst casualties from a barrage of Russian strikes Saturday on Ukrainian cities. The attacks, which also targeted the capital, Kyiv, and the northeastern city of Kharkiv, ended a two-week lull in Moscow’s widespread strikes on Ukraine’s power infrastructure and urban centers.

And Putin said the military operation in Ukraine is going well and has gained positive momentum.

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-says-it-launched-missile-strikes-against-ukraine-saturday-2023-01-15/

"Everything is developing within the framework of the plan of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff. And I hope that our fighters will please us even more with the results of their combat," Putin said.

If anyone needs either a bullet between the eyes or a quick trip to the ICJ in The Hague, it’s Russia’s number one war criminal Putin. It’s incredible that countries like China and India are still not condemning Russia, and it’s still ‘business’ as usual, as far as these countries are concerned.

Hundreds of tanks would require thousands more tank crewmen and support personnel, plus additional vehicle recovery vehicles and teams, plus more mechanics, armourers, radio techs, tons of and millions of $ worth of spare parts and the transport to bring them to where they are needed ( all of which will be new as such will not exist in Ukraine ), etc. Also, different tanks and heavy weapons require training the people to use them. Its not the movies where such trained personnel magically appear and jump in and go to war.

It's never as simple as some would wish.

??????????????

Why would they? It's not their war. They have no reason that I can see to go to bat for Europeans of any country in a European war.

Europeans have been fighting each other for many, many centuries.

What more can they do short of sending their own military and the inevitable casualties that follow?

Have you forgotten that western countries are in financial doodoo because of covid lockdowns and subsequent disruptions in economies?

This isn't a world war and Russia isn't threatening to invade them.
