Popular Post Bkk Brian Posted January 13, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 13, 2023 From one of the Russian BBC correspondents LONG READ - Prison, war and revenge killing: the inside story of the Wagner ‘sledgehammer murder’ case In the summer of 2022 a Russian prison inmate serving a 28-year sentence for murder, volunteered to go to fight in Ukraine. He ended up dead, but not on the battlefield. The story of the life and death of Yevgeny Nuzhin, a killer, a mercenary, but also a husband, father and grandfather, is a grim illustration of how Russia is increasingly using its prison population as an expendable source of new blood on the deadly frontline in eastern Ukraine. This is an updated version of an award-winning BBC Russian story first published on November 17, 2022. https://bbcrussian.substack.com/p/the-inside-story-of-wagner-murder-case 3

A formal announcement is anticipated on Monday but Ukrainian sources indicated they understood that Britain had already decided in favour, as pressure mounts on Berlin ahead of a meeting of western defence ministers next Friday. Earlier this week, it emerged that Britain was considering supplying Ukraine with the tanks, following months of requests from Kyiv – with a final decision in the hands of the prime minister, Rishi Sunak. Sickening, the thought that so many kids are now in the hands of unknown carer's who probably have had minimal vetting. Their safety is highly concerning. Frustrating with all that's going on, the attacks on civilian infrastructure, the rapes, executions and kidnappings. If this had been ISIS or a group like what would the world be doing? Russia is a terrorist state. More needs doing to help Ukraine and its people. 3 3

PM accelerates Ukraine support ahead of anniversary of Putin’s war A flurry of UK diplomatic activity will take place across the globe this week after the Prime Minister directed senior ministers to drive international action as we approach the first anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in late February. UK defence and security officials believe a window has opened up where Russia is on the backfoot due to resupply issues and plummeting morale. The Prime Minister is therefore encouraging allies to deploy their planned support for 2023 as soon as possible to have maximum impact. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pm-accelerates-ukraine-support-ahead-of-anniversary-of-putins-war 1 4

Meanwhile, will the tanks be too little, too late? I read yesterday that Ukraine gets through six months' production of US ammunition in one month, and for Ukraine to actually take back its territory to 2014 borders, the West would have to seriously ratchet up both arms production and supply to war footing levels. A commitment not seen yet.
steven100 Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Unfortunately these tanks are too little too late ..... Now is a critical turning point in this war imo, Putin is planning to draft as many as 2,000,000 reservists in the coming days to send to the front line. The West will have provided all it has so far for nothing unless the act seriously and get Ukraine hundreds of tanks and heavy military hardware. Very grave situation at this time ..... what is the West & EU thinking ?? numpties ! 2

Its not the movies where such trained personnel magically appear and jump in and go to war. It's never as simple as some would wish. 1
