Popular Post johnbarpic
Don’t park in front of my Bar!!! Can anyone explain why a bar or business decides or has the wright that they also own the public Highway road outside their establishment. No yellow lines, No restriction sign, No legal notices, just some high rate person having a major breakdown complaining your blocking my bar…YOU OWN THE BAR NOT THE ROAD!!!!! Go and multiply !!!!!! 3
Popular Post Led Lolly Yellow Lolly
You have to understand local attitudes towards territorial p!$sings. They really believe it's their personal parking space and don't really have any concept of property demarcation lines (until it suits them), and they often put traffic cones on 'their' patch of road. Just ignore them, you can even move the cones out of the way if you want, but expect a confrontation. I recall waiting in my car outside my daughter's school years ago, I got there half an hour early to had to wait, very difficult location to find a space, but I found one. . . A food cart vendor told me he needed to set up shop so I must move. I sat there and ignored him anyway. Led Lolly Yellow Lolly
No. Should I? I would politely explain that I got their first and he could politely wait until I'm gone. Edited March 4, 2022 by Led Lolly Yellow Lolly

Popular Post Led Lolly Yellow Lolly
. . . Actually it was my wife that explained how to deal with them. Public roads are a shared resource and I pay my taxes. I don't have to apologise or excuse myself that. Popular Post EricTh
If you are not the shop's customers, it's better not to park in front of the shop because you are obstructing their customers or delivery people from parking there for a while. Remember, they are doing business and if you were in the same situation, you would do the same. Edited March 4, 2022 by EricTh
bbko
This style has been going on for decades, some choose to ignore the move request, others say the car will be damaged when they return. Me personally? I'd simple move or stop inside for a drink. I've seen businesses with tables, chairs, plants, out on public streets "protecting" the front of their place.
KhunLA
I'll never visit a vendor who thinks the street is theirs. Or one that uses the walkway. 2

And why the best spots don't go to the earliest arrival or the toughest vendor? If it was first come, first served, there would be blood in the streets fighting for the good spots each day. Bottom line, you were sitting in a spot that the vendor had paid for. Public road? Yup. Corrupt? Sure. But you're not in Kansas any more. 7

Popular Post OneMoreFarang
Sometimes I think it's funny when people ask about the legal situation in Thailand for things like this. I remember a sentence like this in one of the many "Thai" books: "It's not like their lawyer will call your lawyer"... Imagine anywhere in the world you are out in the dark and some big bloke comes to you and tells you: Move! What will you do? Argue with him? Tell him to f$@% off because you have the legal right to be there? Sure? Just imagine waking up in the hospital and asking yourself: Was it worth it? Obviously it might be that all will be fine and nobody will bother you. But you shouldn't be so sure about that.

There's nothing "wrong" with a working class Thai trying to make a living pitching up at the same place they always do. what's wrong is your "I don't give a <deleted>" attitude and aggressive nature. If you prefer that way of dealing with things why did you leave the west? 15
it is what it is
reserving parking spaces with bottles, buckets, plants, reserving tables with umbrellas, bags, jackets, it's just how things work here. there was a bar owner who objected to people sitting on the pavement outside his bar, he used to pour water on the pavement to stop them. charming.
johnbarpic
Totally agree with Led Lolly. The reason these confrontations happen is because we allow it. there’s a thinking Farangs have to Kow Tao to people who don’t look and just pull out of junctions. Don’t stop at white stop lines on the railway road. And a hundred other violations that would fund the Army, Navy & Police in Fines. First come first served and #%* them WAIT !!!!! 1

It was happening for years before any of us got to Thailand, and will continue for years after they plant us 6' deep. If you want western values and customs, you're going to walk around Thailand angry a lot. "We allow it". Priceless. But go ahead and tilt at all the windmills you can stand.

Yes you might have the right to park on the open road but it's not worth the hassle. I once parked in a completely legal spot and found on my return some <deleted> had put red paint on all four wheels.
