Japanese tourist attacked by knife wielding man in downtown Bangkok - Lumpini cops use taser

Daily News Thai Caption: Tourist in serious condition after knife attack

 

Lumpini police in downtown Bangkok were obliged to use a taser gun to subdue a Thai man after a vicious attack on a Japanese tourist on Saturday night.

 

Kotaro Iseh, 36, suffered wounds to his neck and face after the attack at the end of Sukhumvit Road, Soi 13, the heart of one of the Thai capital's main tourist areas.

 

Daily News reported that Pol Capt Narenrit Meunrit was on duty with a colleague in the Asoke area when a member of the public informed them of the attack.

They traced the suspect to Soi 19 where he was still in possession of a 30 cm bloodstained stainless steel knife.

 

He was not going quietly so they used a taser to effect the arrest.

Chairat Chaison, 42, was arrested and taken to the Lumpini police station where he was charged with causing grievous bodily harm and weapon's offences. 

 

The suspect claimed that the tourist started the fight but admitted attacking him.

 

He was found to have previous cases of trespass and criminal damage committed in his home province of Nakhon Sri Thammarat in the south of Thailand.

In general, Japanese tourists are unlikely to start fights here... oh, and even if he did, what's Chairat doing with a large knife in public anyway? Give that crucial fact and his past criminality, he needs to go behind bars for a decent length of time.

He’ll probably not see face in jail unless that Japanese guy files a police report. That’s going to take much of his short holiday away.

If that won't draw in the tourists, nothing will! Jungle- and rip-off holidays in Thailand... - First, the Thai government will declare that you're Covid-positive, putting you into overpriced medical care for no reason, ripping you off, before letting you onto the street in a major tourist area, where impoverished, desperature people skin you to get the rest of your cash and valuables...

Why does it make this sound like the cops were really, really reluctant to use non-lethal force on a violent madman? Did they think that trying to ask him nicely to stop stabbing the Jap guy was a better idea? Or were they going to threaten him with a crime scene re-enactment, at which everyone would point accusingly at the knife-wielding Thai? That'll put the fear of God into any armed crazy <shakeshead>

Well that’ll go down well on the Japanese newspaper and if the guy is a tourist here it’s gonna take up many many visits to the police station before the trial which will take forever here in Thailand TIT

I have been to Japan, I know a lot of Japanese in Thailand, and I worked with Japanese in Thailand and other places. The Japanese (esp. the ones you meet abroad) are the most polite, considerate, and peaceful people you can think of. (Maybe because they are real Buddhists.) - Yes, there are 'rogue'Japanese (e.g. Yakuza types) also... But if this Japanese started it, I'd be very surprised.

I've made many visits to Japan, worked with Japanese, and never met one I didn't like and who wasn't unfailingly polite.

Sounds like killing the knife wielder is being considered. Dead perps don't pay bribes.

The Japanese man is only having a short holiday?  How do you know that?   Going to Lumpini police station to fle a report would probably only take a couple of hours if he doesn't do from hospital.
